Growing up in suburban Sydney, Peter was the resident computer whiz. With a father who was a computer teacher, he had early access to technology that most of his peers could only dream of. Photoshop, design programs, and early tech tools became his playground, and soon he discovered his talent for creating.
Peter's first taste of entrepreneurial success came when he designed a poster for a small event and earned $20 for it-an amount that seemed like a fortune to him at the time. Observing their discipline, intellect, and balance of modern life with faith sparked a curiosity in Peter that would transform his life.
Over the course of a year or two, Peter explored Islam through mosque visits and interactions with Muslim communities. He was drawn to the tranquility and sense of purpose he observed in practicing Muslims, ultimately leading him to embrace Islam and take his Shahadah on the 27th night of Ramadan. Peter recalls the experience as a moment of immense blessing, a spiritual awakening that set the stage for his future.
Converting to Islam in the early 2000s presented challenges, especially in a world that was beginning to view Islam through the lens of global conflict and misunderstanding. Peter faced professional dilemmas where his faith conflicted with industry norms, such as refusing to design materials for alcohol or gambling campaigns. At times, he even considered stepping away from his promising career.
Yet Peter's faith became a source of strength rather than a hindrance. Determined to explore the depth of his religion and its compatibility with creativity, he embarked on extensive travels. From Morocco to Syria, he collected treasures like hand-written Qurans and vintage Quranic recitations, each item deepening his understanding of Islamic art and design.
A significant turning point came when Peter met Abdul Rahim Sanders, a photographer who had spent decades documenting the Muslim world while maintaining his artistic integrity. Sanders' example proved that it was possible to excel as a creative professional while staying true to one's faith. Inspired, Peter returned to the design world with renewed purpose, now integrating Islamic principles into his projects.
Peter's unique approach to design has led to innovative projects that merge spirituality and creativity. From Quran-inspired Google Glass concepts to the "Salam Sisters" and "Tales of Khayal" series-his work blends Islamic culture with modern design, comics, and video games, creating experiences that resonate with Muslim audiences worldwide.
His faith not only shaped his creative vision but also opened doors to Silicon Valley, where he has shared insights on Islam and design with major tech companies, including Apple. Peter even introduced concepts like Baraka in design, educating some of the world's leading designers on how faith can influence aesthetics and purpose.
