Two million Palestinians in Gaza are waking up to the news that Hamas and Israel have agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire deal - possibly bringing an end to two years of bombardment, starvation, death and destruction. It follows days of crucial negotiations in Egypt - with senior leaders from the US, Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye going in for the final round.
US President Donald Trump made the announcement in a social media post a few hours ago. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would convene his government on Thursday to approve the ceasefire agreement.
