The Day of Ashura 2026: A Call for Reflection, Unity, and Compassion

The Day of Ashura in 2026 falls on Thursday, June 25, 2026, corresponding to 10 Muharram 1448 AH.

Ashura is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar, a time for remembrance, gratitude, and spiritual renewal. Its message transcends sectarian divides, calling people toward faith, justice, compassion, and trust in Allah.

Rooted in sacred history, Ashura recalls the deliverance of Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh's tyranny, a powerful reminder that truth ultimately prevails over oppression and faith over fear. Ashura also invites reflection on the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad, whose stand at Karbala remains an enduring example of moral courage, dignity, and sacrifice in the face of injustice.

"... And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him." - Quran 65:2-3

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

"Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope from Allah, will expiate the sins of the previous year." - Sahih Muslim 1162

We are encouraged to observe the fast of Ashura and, following the Prophetic tradition, to fast either the ninth and tenth of Muharram or the tenth and eleventh. Through worship, reflection, and acts of kindness, Ashura offers an opportunity to draw closer to Allah and renew our commitment to justice, compassion, and service to humanity.
