In a historic victory for Michigan, Abdul Rahman Muhammad celebrates his election as the state's new U.S. senator, reflecting on a campaign that challenged political expectations and overcame millions of dollars in opposition spending.

In his victory speech, he thanked the people of Michigan for their trust, prayers, generosity, and support, turning his repeated campaign phrase, "Inshallah," into "Alhamdulillah." He described the win as a victory for ordinary people over corporate interests and a political system driven by money.

Muhammad also addressed the Islamophobic and divisive attacks he faced during the campaign, including attempts to make his Muslim faith and background an issue. He argued that his name and religion were never the reason Americans were struggling with rising grocery prices, healthcare costs, or economic insecurity. Instead, he called for an America that welcomes people regardless of how they look, where their families come from, or how they worship.

He emphasized his commitment to healthcare, workers' rights, affordable living, clean air and water, and protecting human rights. He also spoke about the need to end the use of American taxpayers' money to fund wars and support policies that harm civilians, specifically raising the rights of Palestinian children to live in peace, dignity, and freedom.

Reflecting on the challenges of his campaign, Muhammad said he had been told that a Muslim candidate with his background could not win a statewide Senate race. His victory, he argued, demonstrated that grassroots movements can overcome powerful political interests when ordinary people stand together.

He concluded by thanking his family, campaign team, volunteers, unions, and supporters, while reminding the crowd that the work ahead would require continued public involvement and collective action.
