North America & Europe
According to Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) the first day of Ramadan 1444 is on Thursday, March 23, 2023, insha'Allah.
The Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar'i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months, including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. FCNA uses the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR), which are that somewhere on the globe, at the sunset, the elongation should be at least 8 degrees and moon should be at least 5 degrees above horizon. If these conditions are met, then it is certain that the moon is above the horizon and will be visible somewhere on the globe. Hence the new lunar month will start the next day, otherwise, it will start on the day following next. On the basis of this, the dates of Ramadan and Eidul Fitr are established.
Ramadan 1444 AH: The Astronomical New Moon is on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 17:23 Universal Time. On that day, there is no place on earth where at sunset, the elongation is 8 degrees and the moon is 5 degrees above the sun. So, the first day of Ramadan 1444 is on Thursday, March 23, 2023, insha'Allah. Tarawih prayer will start on Wednesday night.
Eidul-Fitr 1444 AH: The Astronomical New Moon is on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 4:12 Universal Time. On April 20, the elongation is more than 8 degrees and moon is more than 5 degrees above the sun everywhere in North America. Hence the first day of Shawwal is on Friday, April 21, 2023, insha'Allah.

Australia
According to Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), the month of Ramadan for 1444H - 2023 will commence on Thursday, 23rd of March 2023.
In Sydney, the sun will set on Wednesday, 22nd of March at 7.04pm (AEST) and the moon will appear on the same day after sunset for 26 minutes until 7.30pm, where it will disappear thereafter from the horizon. In Perth, the sun will set on Wednesday at 6.25pm (AWST) and the moon will appear on the same day after sunset for 30 minutes until 6.55pm, where it will disappear thereafter from the horizon. This allows sufficient time to sight the moon under normal conditions with the absence of all that hinders the moon from being sighted.
