'I'm Voting With My Conscience'


“It’s hard for privileged people who never endured war to understand.” Misho Assi, a political organiser for the Democratic Party in Michigan, says she can’t bring herself to ask her community to vote for Kamala Harris while a genocide is ongoing in Gaza, and while her family in Lebanon are being displaced.

Dearborn is home to 200,000 Arab Americans and 300,000 Muslim Americans, making their vote crucial in a tight presidential race that could come down to Michigan.

In 2016, Donald Trump clenched power by winning Michigan by only 10,000 votes. In 2020, Joe Biden won Michigan by 150,000.
