Why Is US Media Silent When Israel Denies Life-Saving Treatment to Journalists?

Israel denied two critically injured journalists, Fadi Al-Wahidi and Ali Attar, of Al-Jazeera TV, the right to leave Gaza for life-saving treatments.

Despite repeated requests from Al-Jazeera and human rights groups, Israel refused to grant them medical travel permits without offering a reason.

The family of Fadi Al-Wahidi has entered an open hunger strike in protest. His cancer-stricken mother appealed passionately to news organizations, human rights groups, and public officials for help, stating she would join the hunger strike.

Under the rules of war and international humanitarian law, Israel is obligated to treat the occupied people humanely and protect the wounded and the sick. Fadi, 24, and Ali, 27, were intentionally targeted by the IOF while documenting Israeli war crimes in Gaza and have a right to medical treatment.

Since October 7, the Israeli Death Forces (IDF) have killed at least 173 journalists in Gaza — a fact ignored by U.S. mainstream media, which defends Netanyahu's genocidal policies while overlooking the assassination, torture, and detention of journalists in Gaza.

Wikipedia notes that journalists must gather information independently to hold governments accountable, yet U.S. media fails to report these atrocities.

Even sick children are not exempt. Last October, while the IDF HQ lit up pink for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, 350 Gaza children with cancer were denied treatment abroad under the guise of security concerns.

Take Action:

Journalists, NGOs, and readers can help Fadi and Ali by contacting the Israeli Prime Minister’s office (@IsraeliPM) or the nearest Israeli diplomatic mission to demand their immediate access to life-saving treatment.
