Statement of Emmanuel Marsigny with regard to prof. Dr. Tariq Ramadan’s release from prison in France:

It is with a great sigh of relief that we received the news of Dr. Ramadan’s release from prison in France. Prof. Ramadan was incarcerated for almost ten months. During his stay in prison his health deteriorated to an alarming degree so that he can barely walk on his own now. The French judiciary bears responsibility for this. However, we do pray and hope that Dr. Ramadan will now be able to clear his name completely of the accusations that have been leveled against him. Despite the fact that he has been released on bail only we hope that the French judiciary has finally pushed the long overdue reset-button in Dr. Ramadan’s case and will grant him the benefit of doubt, a human right every human being irrespective of religion or belief is entitled to. Dr. Ramadan has stated from the very beginning that he is willing to cooperate fully with the investigating authorities and he has reiterated this today. We would like to remind the public that Dr. Ramadan came out of his own free will from the UK to France in February this year to face his accusers.

We pray for Dr. Ramadan and his family and hope that the long process of healing and recovery can start from today and that the final judgment will absolve him of any criminal and illegal wrongdoing. We appeal to the general public and the Muslim public in particular not to jump to unfounded conclusions and allow Dr. Ramadan and his advocates to carry out their work in an atmosphere of peace. We also appeal to the French media and certain public figures to allow for the legal proceedings to take place and desist from further vilification and slandering of Dr. Ramadan.

May Allah protect us all and may He guide us.
