Journey to Mecca - In the footsteps of Ibn Battuta

This past weekend at the IMAX Theater California Science Center IslamiCity held an extremely successful event, from December 10-11, 2011. The event, the IMAX film Journey to Mecca - In the footsteps of Ibn Battuta, returned to Los Angeles by popular demand following its first appearance in 2009. Once again it played to four sold-out and excited audiences.

Lines wrapped around the rotunda of the California Science Center as people waited in the chilly December weather to get inside to see the film. Once inside, Mohammad Abdul Aleem, founder, and CEO of IslamiCity.org welcomed each show's audience enthusiastically giving some background on IslamiCity and the film.

Following the film, everyone was treated to a private viewing of the 1001 Inventions exhibit where they were transported back in time by actors explaining the many achievements of men and women in science and technology during the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization.

"We are very happy that so many people had the opportunity to see this beautiful and important film, which captures the essence of the struggle of men and women in the path of God and the extraordinary achievements of Muslims that pushed forward the dawn of modern civilization at 1001 Inventions," said Mr. Aleem.

More than 1,600 people of different cultures and faiths attended this event from all over Southern California.

Pictures from this event are available here.

The pre-show slide presentation (includes information about Ibn Batutta and Hajj) is available here.
