Dua (Prayer) of Fasting
The following dua (prayers) are recited at the beginning and end of the fast to indicate and affirm the intention of the fast.
A person's intention when fasting is to bring him/herself closer to God.
The purpose of making an intention before every deed is to remind our inner self and confirm with our verbal intention that we seek the pleasure of God in our all actions.
Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast 1
وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan
I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan
Or you can also recite the following:
Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast 2
نـَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غـَدٍ عَـنْ اَدَاءِ فـَرْضِ شـَهْرِ رَمـَضَانَ هـَذِهِ السَّـنـَةِ لِلـّهِ تـَعَالىَ
Nawaitu sauma ghadin anadai fardu shahri ramadhana hazihissanati lillahitaala
I intend to do obligatory fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan this year because of Allah
Dua (Prayer) at the End of the Fast
اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ امنْتُ وَعَليْكَ تَوَكّلتُ وَ عَلى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ
Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu
O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance

Hadith of Intention
Umar Ibn Al-Khattab relates that he heard the Messenger of God صلى الله عليه و سلم say : “Actions are but by intention and every man shall have but that which he intended. Thus he whose migration was for Allah and His messenger, his migration was for Allah and His messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to take some woman in marriage, his migration was for that for which he migrated.” ~ Related by Bukhari and Muslim
This is an extremely comprehensive and rich Hadith of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم that reflects the core of the Islamic Faith.
Imam Bukhari selected the first hadith, ‘Innamal a’malu binniyat’ of Sahih Bukhari as an introduction to the whole collection to show the sincerity of purpose of the author. It reminds the reader that good and noble deeds inculcated by the Hadith found therein will only bear fruit if there is sincerity attached to their intentions and would be meaningless if the motive is not sincere.

whereas we fast for today
"I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."
I want to know when this dua is recited. If we recite it the day we
keep fast for, then this dua should be "for today" and not "for
tomorrow" Please clarify.
But it is so common in people that they don't even know that these duas are not from any Hadith.
If they are authentic; then please mention the hadith Book and hadith number.
e.g Sahih Bukhair Hadith number 1234 etc.
7 yrs and older can fast.

Assalamu Alaikum.
Please review the duaas which you have given for keeping and breaking
the fast. Both are not correct. Check out saheeh books and do the
needful. Let us not propagate innovative 'duaas'!
Vassalam.
brother this is not intention like when standing to pray 2 or 4 rakah for any prayer. This is a "dua" for beginning and ending the fast. Hope this clarifies your misunderstanding.
Allah knows best.
Mohammed
Do not be discouraged by some negative comments. For those who do not believe ua then just dont say it. Nothing wrong in saying aloud or by heart your niyyat to fast. The intention has to be stated by heart or aloud. And what is wrong in letting Allah know why you fasted and thanking him for his sustenance?
Jazak Allahu Khair brother!!!!
Kindly send to me the Naflats for the next 29 days of ramadan.
Having said this, you do have the right and obligation to find the truth. There is enough literature out there where you are to do the research and find the answers for yourself. If you find this too much work then I'm sure you will find someone locally to answer this question without the negative impact.
Your choices are simple. - find, follow or do Ijtihad.
Allah (SWT) has already shown us the right path. May He give us all the strength to walk this path ourselves and become a beacon of light for others.
In islam we do not state our niyyah out loud except when we are making niyyah for ummrah after we have made 2 rakat at the mirqat. Please bring daleel as from quran and sunnah about saying this niyyah for fasting in the begining and the end please feesibillah.
Shukran wa ma salama.

Heading of the DUA is Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast.
When u make the dua AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FAST, HOW CAN U SAY, I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow.
Pl. explain as ramadhan is moving away and we need to have clear and correct intentions.
