Surah 78

An-Naba (The Great News)

﴿٧٨:١﴾  عَمَّ يَتَسَاءلُونَ
78:1.  Whereof do they question one another?
﴿٧٨:٢﴾  عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ
78:2.  (It is) of the awful tidings,
﴿٧٨:٣﴾  الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
78:3.  Concerning which they are in disagreement.
﴿٧٨:٤﴾  كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:4.  Nay, but they will come to know!
﴿٧٨:٥﴾  ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:5.  Nay, again, but they will come to know!
﴿٧٨:٦﴾  أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا
78:6.  Have We not made the earth an expanse,
﴿٧٨:٧﴾  وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
78:7.  And the high hills bulwarks?
﴿٧٨:٨﴾  وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا
78:8.  And We have created you in pairs,
﴿٧٨:٩﴾  وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا
78:9.  And have appointed your sleep for repose,
﴿٧٨:١٠﴾  وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا
78:10.  And have appointed the night as a cloak,
﴿٧٨:١١﴾  وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
78:11.  And have appointed the day for livelihood.
﴿٧٨:١٢﴾  وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
78:12.  And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
﴿٧٨:١٣﴾  وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
78:13.  And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
﴿٧٨:١٤﴾  وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاء ثَجَّاجًا
78:14.  And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant Water,
﴿٧٨:١٥﴾  لِنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
78:15.  Thereby to produce grain and plant,
﴿٧٨:١٦﴾  وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا
78:16.  And gardens of thick foliage.
﴿٧٨:١٧﴾  إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا
78:17.  Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
﴿٧٨:١٨﴾  يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا
78:18.  A day when the trumpet is blown, and ye come in multitudes,
﴿٧٨:١٩﴾  وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاء فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا
78:19.  And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
﴿٧٨:٢٠﴾  وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
78:20.  And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
﴿٧٨:٢١﴾  إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا
78:21.  Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,
﴿٧٨:٢٢﴾  لِلْطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا
78:22.  A home for the rebellious.
﴿٧٨:٢٣﴾  لَابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا
78:23.  They will abide therein for ages.
﴿٧٨:٢٤﴾  لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
78:24.  Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
﴿٧٨:٢٥﴾  إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا
78:25.  Save boiling water and a paralyzing cold:
﴿٧٨:٢٦﴾  جَزَاء وِفَاقًا
78:26.  Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).
﴿٧٨:٢٧﴾  إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا
78:27.  For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
﴿٧٨:٢٨﴾  وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا
78:28.  They called Our revelations false with strong denial.
﴿٧٨:٢٩﴾  وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا
78:29.  Everything have We recorded in a Book.
﴿٧٨:٣٠﴾  فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
78:30.  So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.
﴿٧٨:٣١﴾  إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
78:31.  Lo! for the duteous is achievement
﴿٧٨:٣٢﴾  حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا
78:32.  Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
﴿٧٨:٣٣﴾  وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا
78:33.  And maidens for companions,
﴿٧٨:٣٤﴾  وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
78:34.  And a full cup.
﴿٧٨:٣٥﴾  لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا
78:35.  There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying
﴿٧٨:٣٦﴾  جَزَاء مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاء حِسَابًا
78:36.  Requital from thy Lord a gift in payment
﴿٧٨:٣٧﴾  رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرحْمَنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا
78:37.  Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.
﴿٧٨:٣٨﴾  يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرحْمَنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا
78:38.  On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.
﴿٧٨:٣٩﴾  ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ فَمَن شَاء اتَّخَذَ إِلَى رَبِّهِ مَآبًا
78:39.  That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.
﴿٧٨:٤٠﴾  إِنَّا أَنذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
78:40.  Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"
Surah 79

An-Naziat (Those Who Pull Out)

﴿٧٩:١﴾  وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا
79:1.  By those who drag forth to destruction,
﴿٧٩:٢﴾  وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا
79:2.  By the meteors rushing,
﴿٧٩:٣﴾  وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا
79:3.  By the lone stars floating,
﴿٧٩:٤﴾  فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا
79:4.  By the angels hastening,
﴿٧٩:٥﴾  فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا
79:5.  And those who govern the event,
﴿٧٩:٦﴾  يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ
79:6.  On the day when the first trump resoundeth
﴿٧٩:٧﴾  تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ
79:7.  And the second followeth it,
﴿٧٩:٨﴾  قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
79:8.  On that day hearts beat painfully
﴿٧٩:٩﴾  أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ
79:9.  While eyes are downcast
﴿٧٩:١٠﴾  يَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ
79:10.  (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state
﴿٧٩:١١﴾  أَئِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً
79:11.  Even after we are crumbled bones?
﴿٧٩:١٢﴾  قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
79:12.  They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.
﴿٧٩:١٣﴾  فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ
79:13.  Surely it will need but one shout,
﴿٧٩:١٤﴾  فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ
79:14.  And lo! they will be awakened.
﴿٧٩:١٥﴾  هَلْ أتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَى
79:15.  Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses?
﴿٧٩:١٦﴾  إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
79:16.  How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,
﴿٧٩:١٧﴾  اذْهَبْ إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَى
79:17.  (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh--Lo! he hath rebelled--
﴿٧٩:١٨﴾  فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَى أَن تَزَكَّى
79:18.  And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)?
﴿٧٩:١٩﴾  وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَى
79:19.  Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).
﴿٧٩:٢٠﴾  فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَى
79:20.  And he showed him the tremendous token.
﴿٧٩:٢١﴾  فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَى
79:21.  But be denied and disobeyed,
﴿٧٩:٢٢﴾  ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى
79:22.  Then turned he away in haste,
﴿٧٩:٢٣﴾  فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَى
79:23.  Then gathered he and summoned
﴿٧٩:٢٤﴾  فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَى
79:24.  And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
﴿٧٩:٢٥﴾  فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَى
79:25.  So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.
﴿٧٩:٢٦﴾  إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَى
79:26.  Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.
﴿٧٩:٢٧﴾  أَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاء بَنَاهَا
79:27.  Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built?
﴿٧٩:٢٨﴾  رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا
79:28.  He raised the height thereof and ordered it;
﴿٧٩:٢٩﴾  وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا
79:29.  And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.
﴿٧٩:٣٠﴾  وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ دَحَاهَا
79:30.  And after that He spread the earth,
﴿٧٩:٣١﴾  أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا
79:31.  And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,
﴿٧٩:٣٢﴾  وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا
79:32.  And He made fast the hills,
﴿٧٩:٣٣﴾  مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
79:33.  A provision for you and for your cattle.
﴿٧٩:٣٤﴾  فَإِذَا جَاءتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى
79:34.  But when the great disaster cometh,
﴿٧٩:٣٥﴾  يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَى
79:35.  The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavor,
﴿٧٩:٣٦﴾  وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَى
79:36.  And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,
﴿٧٩:٣٧﴾  فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَى
79:37.  Then, as for him who rebelled
﴿٧٩:٣٨﴾  وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
79:38.  And chose the life of the world,
﴿٧٩:٣٩﴾  فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى
79:39.  Lo! hell will be his home.
﴿٧٩:٤٠﴾  وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى
79:40.  But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,
﴿٧٩:٤١﴾  فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى
79:41.  Lo! the Garden will be his home.
﴿٧٩:٤٢﴾  يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا
79:42.  They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?
﴿٧٩:٤٣﴾  فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَاهَا
79:43.  Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?
﴿٧٩:٤٤﴾  إِلَى رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَاهَا
79:44.  Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.
﴿٧٩:٤٥﴾  إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا
79:45.  Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.
﴿٧٩:٤٦﴾  كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا
79:46.  On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
Surah 80

'Abasa (He Frowned)

﴿٨٠:١﴾  عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى
80:1.  He frowned and turned away
﴿٨٠:٢﴾  أَن جَاءهُ الْأَعْمَى
80:2.  Because the blind man came unto him.
﴿٨٠:٣﴾  وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى
80:3.  What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)
﴿٨٠:٤﴾  أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى
80:4.  Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him?
﴿٨٠:٥﴾  أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى
80:5.  As for him who thinketh himself independent,
﴿٨٠:٦﴾  فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّى
80:6.  Unto him thou payest regard.
﴿٨٠:٧﴾  وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّى
80:7.  Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).
﴿٨٠:٨﴾  وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءكَ يَسْعَى
80:8.  But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose
﴿٨٠:٩﴾  وَهُوَ يَخْشَى
80:9.  And hath fear,
﴿٨٠:١٠﴾  فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّى
80:10.  From him thou art distracted.
﴿٨٠:١١﴾  كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
80:11.  Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment,
﴿٨٠:١٢﴾  فَمَن شَاء ذَكَرَهُ
80:12.  So let whosoever will pay heed to it,
﴿٨٠:١٣﴾  فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
80:13.  On honored leaves
﴿٨٠:١٤﴾  مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ
80:14.  Exalted, purified,
﴿٨٠:١٥﴾  بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ
80:15.  (Set down) by scribes
﴿٨٠:١٦﴾  كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ
80:16.  Noble and righteous.
﴿٨٠:١٧﴾  قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ
80:17.  Man is (self) destroyed: how ungrateful!
﴿٨٠:١٨﴾  مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ
80:18.  From what thing doth He create him?
﴿٨٠:١٩﴾  مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ
80:19.  From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,
﴿٨٠:٢٠﴾  ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ
80:20.  Then maketh the way easy for him,
﴿٨٠:٢١﴾  ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ
80:21.  Then causeth him to die, and burieth him;
﴿٨٠:٢٢﴾  ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاء أَنشَرَهُ
80:22.  Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.
﴿٨٠:٢٣﴾  كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ
80:23.  Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him.
﴿٨٠:٢٤﴾  فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ
80:24.  Let man consider his food:
﴿٨٠:٢٥﴾  أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاء صَبًّا
80:25.  How We pour water in showers
﴿٨٠:٢٦﴾  ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
80:26.  Then split the earth in clefts
﴿٨٠:٢٧﴾  فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
80:27.  And cause the grain to grow therein
﴿٨٠:٢٨﴾  وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
80:28.  And grapes and green fodder
﴿٨٠:٢٩﴾  وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
80:29.  And olive trees and palm trees
﴿٨٠:٣٠﴾  وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا
80:30.  And garden closes of thick foliage
﴿٨٠:٣١﴾  وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
80:31.  And fruits and grasses:
﴿٨٠:٣٢﴾  مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
80:32.  Provision for you and your cattle.
﴿٨٠:٣٣﴾  فَإِذَا جَاءتِ الصَّاخَّةُ
80:33.  But when the Shout cometh
﴿٨٠:٣٤﴾  يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
80:34.  On the day when a man fleeth from his brother
﴿٨٠:٣٥﴾  وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ
80:35.  And his mother and his father
﴿٨٠:٣٦﴾  وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ
80:36.  And his wife and his children,
﴿٨٠:٣٧﴾  لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
80:37.  Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).
﴿٨٠:٣٨﴾  وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
80:38.  On that day faces will be bright as dawn,
﴿٨٠:٣٩﴾  ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
80:39.  Laughing, rejoicing at good news;
﴿٨٠:٤٠﴾  وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
80:40.  And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,
﴿٨٠:٤١﴾  تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
80:41.  Veiled in darkness,
﴿٨٠:٤٢﴾  أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ
80:42.  Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.
Surah 81

At-Takwir (The Folding Up)

﴿٨١:١﴾  إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ
81:1.  When the sun is overthrown,
﴿٨١:٢﴾  وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ
81:2.  And when the stars fall,
﴿٨١:٣﴾  وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ
81:3.  And when the hills are moved,
﴿٨١:٤﴾  وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ
81:4.  And when the camels big with young are abandoned,
﴿٨١:٥﴾  وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ
81:5.  And when the wild beasts are herded together,
﴿٨١:٦﴾  وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ
81:6.  And when the seas rise,
﴿٨١:٧﴾  وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ
81:7.  And when souls are reunited,
﴿٨١:٨﴾  وَإِذَا الْمَوْؤُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ
81:8.  And when the girl child that was buried alive is asked
﴿٨١:٩﴾  بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ
81:9.  For what sin she was slain,
﴿٨١:١٠﴾  وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ
81:10.  And when the pages are laid open,
﴿٨١:١١﴾  وَإِذَا السَّمَاء كُشِطَتْ
81:11.  And when the sky is torn away,
﴿٨١:١٢﴾  وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ
81:12.  And when hell is lighted
﴿٨١:١٣﴾  وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ
81:13.  And when the garden is brought nigh
﴿٨١:١٤﴾  عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ
81:14.  (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready.
﴿٨١:١٥﴾  فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ
81:15.  Oh, but I call to witness the planets,
﴿٨١:١٦﴾  الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ
81:16.  The stars which rise and set,
﴿٨١:١٧﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ
81:17.  And the close of night,
﴿٨١:١٨﴾  وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ
81:18.  And the breath of morning
﴿٨١:١٩﴾  إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
81:19.  That this is in truth the word of an honored messenger,
﴿٨١:٢٠﴾  ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ
81:20.  Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
﴿٨١:٢١﴾  مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ
81:21.  (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy;
﴿٨١:٢٢﴾  وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ
81:22.  And your comrade is not mad.
﴿٨١:٢٣﴾  وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ
81:23.  Surely he beheld him on the clear horizon.
﴿٨١:٢٤﴾  وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ
81:24.  And he is not avid of the Unseen.
﴿٨١:٢٥﴾  وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ
81:25.  Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned
﴿٨١:٢٦﴾  فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ
81:26.  Whither then go ye?
﴿٨١:٢٧﴾  إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
81:27.  This is naught else than a reminder unto creation,
﴿٨١:٢٨﴾  لِمَن شَاء مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ
81:28.  Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.
﴿٨١:٢٩﴾  وَمَا تَشَاؤُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاء اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ
81:29.  And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.
Surah 82

Al-Infitar (The Cleaving)

﴿٨٢:١﴾  إِذَا السَّمَاء انفَطَرَتْ
82:1.  When the heaven is cleft asunder,
﴿٨٢:٢﴾  وَإِذَا الْكَوَاكِبُ انتَثَرَتْ
82:2.  When the planets are dispersed,
﴿٨٢:٣﴾  وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ
82:3.  When the seas are poured forth,
﴿٨٢:٤﴾  وَإِذَا الْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ
82:4.  And the sepulchres are overturned,
﴿٨٢:٥﴾  عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ
82:5.  A soul will know what it hath sent before (it) and what left behind.
﴿٨٢:٦﴾  يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ
82:6.  O man! What hath made thee careless concerning thy Lord, the Bountiful,
﴿٨٢:٧﴾  الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ
82:7.  Who created thee, then fashioned, then proportioned thee?
﴿٨٢:٨﴾  فِي أَيِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَاء رَكَّبَكَ
82:8.  Into whatsover form He will, He casteth thee
﴿٨٢:٩﴾  كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ
82:9.  Nay, but they deny the Judgment.
﴿٨٢:١٠﴾  وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَافِظِينَ
82:10.  Lo ! there are above you guardians,
﴿٨٢:١١﴾  كِرَامًا كَاتِبِينَ
82:11.  Generous and recording,
﴿٨٢:١٢﴾  يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
82:12.  Who know (all) that ye do.
﴿٨٢:١٣﴾  إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ
82:13.  Lo! the righteous verily will be in delight
﴿٨٢:١٤﴾  وَإِنَّ الْفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمٍ
82:14.  And lo! the wicked verily will be in hell;
﴿٨٢:١٥﴾  يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
82:15.  They will burn therein on the Day of Judgment,
﴿٨٢:١٦﴾  وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَائِبِينَ
82:16.  And will not be absent thence.
﴿٨٢:١٧﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
82:17.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!
﴿٨٢:١٨﴾  ثُمَّ مَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
82:18.  Again, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!
﴿٨٢:١٩﴾  يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَيْئًا وَالْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلَّهِ
82:19.  A day on which no soul hath power at all for any (other) soul. The (absolute) command on that day is Allah's.
Surah 83

Al-Mutaffifin (Those Who Deal in Fraud)

﴿٨٣:١﴾  وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
83:1.  Woe unto the defrauders:
﴿٨٣:٢﴾  الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُواْ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
83:2.  Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full,
﴿٨٣:٣﴾  وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
83:3.  But if they measure unto them or weigh for them, they cause them loss.
﴿٨٣:٤﴾  أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
83:4.  Do such (men) not consider that they will be again
﴿٨٣:٥﴾  لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
83:5.  Unto an awful Day,
﴿٨٣:٦﴾  يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
83:6.  The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds?
﴿٨٣:٧﴾  كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ
83:7.  Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin
﴿٨٣:٨﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
83:8.  Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is!
﴿٨٣:٩﴾  كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:9.  A written record.
﴿٨٣:١٠﴾  وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
83:10.  Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
﴿٨٣:١١﴾  الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
83:11.  Those who deny the Day of Judgment
﴿٨٣:١٢﴾  وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
83:12.  Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor,
﴿٨٣:١٣﴾  إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
83:13.  Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old
﴿٨٣:١٤﴾  كَلَّا بَلْ رَانَ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ
83:14.  Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts.
﴿٨٣:١٥﴾  كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
83:15.  Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord.
﴿٨٣:١٦﴾  ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا الْجَحِيمِ
83:16.  Then lo! they verily will burn in hell,
﴿٨٣:١٧﴾  ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ
83:17.  And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny.
﴿٨٣:١٨﴾  كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ
83:18.  Nay, but the record of the righteous is in Iliyin
﴿٨٣:١٩﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
83:19.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what Iliyin is!
﴿٨٣:٢٠﴾  كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:20.  A written record,
﴿٨٣:٢١﴾  يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:21.  Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord).
﴿٨٣:٢٢﴾  إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ
83:22.  Lo! the righteous verily are in delight,
﴿٨٣:٢٣﴾  عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:23.  On couches, gazing,
﴿٨٣:٢٤﴾  تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ
83:24.  Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight
﴿٨٣:٢٥﴾  يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ
83:25.  They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,
﴿٨٣:٢٦﴾  خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ وَفِي ذَلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ
83:26.  Whose seal is musk. For this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss
﴿٨٣:٢٧﴾  وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ
83:27.  And mixed with water of Tasnim,
﴿٨٣:٢٨﴾  عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:28.  A spring whence those brought near to Allah drink
﴿٨٣:٢٩﴾  إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُواْ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ
83:29.  Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,
﴿٨٣:٣٠﴾  وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
83:30.  And wink one to another when they passed them;
﴿٨٣:٣١﴾  وَإِذَا انقَلَبُواْ إِلَى أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُواْ فَكِهِينَ
83:31.  And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jetting;
﴿٨٣:٣٢﴾  وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَؤُلَاء لَضَالُّونَ
83:32.  And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.
﴿٨٣:٣٣﴾  وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ
83:33.  Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
﴿٨٣:٣٤﴾  فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:34.  This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers,
﴿٨٣:٣٥﴾  عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:35.  On high couches, gazing.
﴿٨٣:٣٦﴾  هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ
83:36.  Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do?
Surah 84

Al-Inshiqaq (The Splitting Asunder)

﴿٨٤:١﴾  إِذَا السَّمَاء انشَقَّتْ
84:1.  When the heaven is split asunder
﴿٨٤:٢﴾  وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:2.  And attentive to her Lord in fear,
﴿٨٤:٣﴾  وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
84:3.  And when the earth is spread out
﴿٨٤:٤﴾  وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
84:4.  And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty
﴿٨٤:٥﴾  وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:5.  And attentive to her Lord in fear!
﴿٨٤:٦﴾  يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَى رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ
84:6.  Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).
﴿٨٤:٧﴾  فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ
84:7.  Then whoso is given his account in his right hand
﴿٨٤:٨﴾  فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
84:8.  He truly will receive an easy reckoning
﴿٨٤:٩﴾  وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
84:9.  And will return unto his folk in joy.
﴿٨٤:١٠﴾  وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاء ظَهْرِهِ
84:10.  But whoso is given his account behind his back,
﴿٨٤:١١﴾  فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا
84:11.  He surely will invoke destruction
﴿٨٤:١٢﴾  وَيَصْلَى سَعِيرًا
84:12.  And be thrown to scorching fire.
﴿٨٤:١٣﴾  إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
84:13.  He verily lived joyous with his folk,
﴿٨٤:١٤﴾  إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
84:14.  He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).
﴿٨٤:١٥﴾  بَلَى إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا
84:15.  Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!
﴿٨٤:١٦﴾  فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ
84:16.  Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,
﴿٨٤:١٧﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
84:17.  And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,
﴿٨٤:١٨﴾  وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ
84:18.  And by the moon when she is at the full,
﴿٨٤:١٩﴾  لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
84:19.  That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.
﴿٨٤:٢٠﴾  فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
84:20.  What aileth them, then, that they believe not
﴿٨٤:٢١﴾  وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ
84:21.  And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?
﴿٨٤:٢٢﴾  بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ
84:22.  Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;
﴿٨٤:٢٣﴾  وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
84:23.  And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.
﴿٨٤:٢٤﴾  فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
84:24.  So give them tidings of a painful doom,
﴿٨٤:٢٥﴾  إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
84:25.  Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.
Surah 85

Al-Buruj (The Big Stars)

﴿٨٥:١﴾  وَالسَّمَاء ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ
85:1.  By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,
﴿٨٥:٢﴾  وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ
85:2.  And by the Promised Day.
﴿٨٥:٣﴾  وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ
85:3.  And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,
﴿٨٥:٤﴾  قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ
85:4.  (Self) destroyed were the owners of the ditch
﴿٨٥:٥﴾  النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ
85:5.  Of the fuel-fed fire,
﴿٨٥:٦﴾  إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ
85:6.  When they sat by it,
﴿٨٥:٧﴾  وَهُمْ عَلَى مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ
85:7.  And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
﴿٨٥:٨﴾  وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ
85:8.  They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,
﴿٨٥:٩﴾  الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
85:9.  Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
﴿٨٥:١٠﴾  إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ
85:10.  Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.
﴿٨٥:١١﴾  إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ
85:11.  Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.
﴿٨٥:١٢﴾  إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ
85:12.  Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.
﴿٨٥:١٣﴾  إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
85:13.  Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,
﴿٨٥:١٤﴾  وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ
85:14.  And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
﴿٨٥:١٥﴾  ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ
85:15.  Lord of the Throne of Glory,
﴿٨٥:١٦﴾  فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ
85:16.  Doer of what He will.
﴿٨٥:١٧﴾  هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ
85:17.  Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts
﴿٨٥:١٨﴾  فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ
85:18.  Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?
﴿٨٥:١٩﴾  بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ
85:19.  Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial
﴿٨٥:٢٠﴾  وَاللَّهُ مِن وَرَائِهِم مُّحِيطٌ
85:20.  And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.
﴿٨٥:٢١﴾  بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَّجِيدٌ
85:21.  Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an
﴿٨٥:٢٢﴾  فِي لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍ
85:22.  On a guarded tablet.
Surah 86

At-Tariq (The Night-Comer)

﴿٨٦:١﴾  وَالسَّمَاء وَالطَّارِقِ
86:1.  By the heaven and the Morning Star
﴿٨٦:٢﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ
86:2.  Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
﴿٨٦:٣﴾  النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ
86:3.  The piercing Star!
﴿٨٦:٤﴾  إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ
86:4.  No human soul but hath a guardian over it.
﴿٨٦:٥﴾  فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
86:5.  So let man consider from what he is created.
﴿٨٦:٦﴾  خُلِقَ مِن مَّاء دَافِقٍ
86:6.  He is created from a gushing fluid
﴿٨٦:٧﴾  يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ
86:7.  That issued from between the loins and ribs.
﴿٨٦:٨﴾  إِنَّهُ عَلَى رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ
86:8.  Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)
﴿٨٦:٩﴾  يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ
86:9.  On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.
﴿٨٦:١٠﴾  فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ
86:10.  Then will he have no might nor any helper.
﴿٨٦:١١﴾  وَالسَّمَاء ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ
86:11.  By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,
﴿٨٦:١٢﴾  وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ
86:12.  And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)
﴿٨٦:١٣﴾  إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ
86:13.  Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word,
﴿٨٦:١٤﴾  وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ
86:14.  It is no pleasantry.
﴿٨٦:١٥﴾  إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا
86:15.  Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)
﴿٨٦:١٦﴾  وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا
86:16.  And I plot a plot (against them).
﴿٨٦:١٧﴾  فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا
86:17.  So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
Surah 87

Al-A'la (The Most High)

﴿٨٧:١﴾  سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
87:1.  Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High,
﴿٨٧:٢﴾  الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّى
87:2.  Who createth, then disposeth;
﴿٨٧:٣﴾  وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَى
87:3.  Who measureth, then guideth;
﴿٨٧:٤﴾  وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَى
87:4.  Who bringeth forth the pasturage,
﴿٨٧:٥﴾  فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاء أَحْوَى
87:5.  Then turneth it to russet stubble.
﴿٨٧:٦﴾  سَنُقْرِؤُكَ فَلَا تَنسَى
87:6.  We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
﴿٨٧:٧﴾  إِلَّا مَا شَاء اللَّهُ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَى
87:7.  Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden;
﴿٨٧:٨﴾  وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَى
87:8.  And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.
﴿٨٧:٩﴾  فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَى
87:9.  Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.
﴿٨٧:١٠﴾  سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَى
87:10.  He will heed who feareth,
﴿٨٧:١١﴾  وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
87:11.  But the most hapless will flout it,
﴿٨٧:١٢﴾  الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَى
87:12.  He who will be flung to the great fire
﴿٨٧:١٣﴾  ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَى
87:13.  Wherein he will neither die nor live.
﴿٨٧:١٤﴾  قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّى
87:14.  He is successful who groweth,
﴿٨٧:١٥﴾  وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّى
87:15.  And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth.
﴿٨٧:١٦﴾  بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
87:16.  But ye prefer the life of the world
﴿٨٧:١٧﴾  وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَى
87:17.  Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
﴿٨٧:١٨﴾  إِنَّ هَذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَى
87:18.  Lo! This is in the former scrolls,
﴿٨٧:١٩﴾  صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى
87:19.  The Book of Abraham and Moses.
Surah 88

Al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming)

﴿٨٨:١﴾  هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ
88:1.  Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?
﴿٨٨:٢﴾  وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ
88:2.  On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
﴿٨٨:٣﴾  عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3.  Toiling, weary,
﴿٨٨:٤﴾  تَصْلَى نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4.  Scorched by burning fire,
﴿٨٨:٥﴾  تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ
88:5.  Drinking from a boiling spring,
﴿٨٨:٦﴾  لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6.  No food for them save bitter thorn fruit
﴿٨٨:٧﴾  لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ
88:7.  Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
﴿٨٨:٨﴾  وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8.  In that day other faces will be calm,
﴿٨٨:٩﴾  لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9.  Glad for their effort past,
﴿٨٨:١٠﴾  فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10.  In a high garden
﴿٨٨:١١﴾  لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً
88:11.  Where they hear no idle speech,
﴿٨٨:١٢﴾  فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12.  Wherein is a gushing spring, Ë
﴿٨٨:١٣﴾  فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13.  Wherein are couches raised
﴿٨٨:١٤﴾  وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14.  And goblets set at hand
﴿٨٨:١٥﴾  وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15.  And cushions ranged
﴿٨٨:١٦﴾  وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16.  And silken carts spread
﴿٨٨:١٧﴾  أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17.  Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?
﴿٨٨:١٨﴾  وَإِلَى السَّمَاء كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18.  And the heaven, how it is railed?
﴿٨٨:١٩﴾  وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19.  And the hills, how they are set up?
﴿٨٨:٢٠﴾  وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20.  And the earth, how it is spread?
﴿٨٨:٢١﴾  فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21.  Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
﴿٨٨:٢٢﴾  لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22.  Thou art not at all a warder over them.
﴿٨٨:٢٣﴾  إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّى وَكَفَرَ
88:23.  But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
﴿٨٨:٢٤﴾  فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ
88:24.  Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
﴿٨٨:٢٥﴾  إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25.  Lo! unto Us is their return
﴿٨٨:٢٦﴾  ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ
88:26.  And Ours their reckoning.
Surah 89

Al-Fajr (The Dawn)

﴿٨٩:١﴾  وَالْفَجْرِ
89:1.  By the Dawn
﴿٨٩:٢﴾  وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
89:2.  And ten nights,
﴿٨٩:٣﴾  وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
89:3.  And the Even and the Odd,
﴿٨٩:٤﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
89:4.  And the night when it departeth
﴿٨٩:٥﴾  هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ
89:5.  There surely is an oath for thinking man.
﴿٨٩:٦﴾  أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
89:6.  Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) Aad,
﴿٨٩:٧﴾  إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
89:7.  With many-columned Iram,
﴿٨٩:٨﴾  الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
89:8.  The like of which was not created in the lands;
﴿٨٩:٩﴾  وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
89:9.  And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;
﴿٨٩:١٠﴾  وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
89:10.  And with Pharaoh, firm of right,
﴿٨٩:١١﴾  الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
89:11.  Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) these lands,
﴿٨٩:١٢﴾  فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
89:12.  And multiplied inquiry therein?
﴿٨٩:١٣﴾  فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
89:13.  Therefor thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.
﴿٨٩:١٤﴾  إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
89:14.  Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful.
﴿٨٩:١٥﴾  فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
89:15.  As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honoring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.
﴿٨٩:١٦﴾  وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
89:16.  But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.
﴿٨٩:١٧﴾  كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
89:17.  Nay, but ye (for your part) honor not the orphan
﴿٨٩:١٨﴾  وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
89:18.  And urge not on the feeding of the poor,
﴿٨٩:١٩﴾  وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
89:19.  And ye devour heritages with devouring greed
﴿٨٩:٢٠﴾  وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
89:20.  And love wealth with abounding love.
﴿٨٩:٢١﴾  كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
89:21.  Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,
﴿٨٩:٢٢﴾  وَجَاء رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
89:22.  And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,
﴿٨٩:٢٣﴾  وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى
89:23.  And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?
﴿٨٩:٢٤﴾  يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
89:24.  He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!
﴿٨٩:٢٥﴾  فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
89:25.  None punisheth as He will punish on that day!
﴿٨٩:٢٦﴾  وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
89:26.  None bindeth as He then will bind.
﴿٨٩:٢٧﴾  يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
89:27.  But ah! thou soul at peace!
﴿٨٩:٢٨﴾  ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
89:28.  Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
﴿٨٩:٢٩﴾  فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
89:29.  Enter thou among My bondmen!
﴿٨٩:٣٠﴾  وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
89:30.  Enter thou My Garden!
Surah 90

Al-Balad (The City)

﴿٩٠:١﴾  لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ
90:1.  Nay, I swear by this city
﴿٩٠:٢﴾  وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ
90:2.  And thou art an indweller of this city
﴿٩٠:٣﴾  وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
90:3.  And the begetter and that which he begat,
﴿٩٠:٤﴾  لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ
90:4.  We verily have created man in an atmosphere:
﴿٩٠:٥﴾  أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
90:5.  Thinketh he that none hath power over him?
﴿٩٠:٦﴾  يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
90:6.  And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth:
﴿٩٠:٧﴾  أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ
90:7.  Thinketh he that none beholdeth him?
﴿٩٠:٨﴾  أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ
90:8.  Did We not assign unto him two eyes
﴿٩٠:٩﴾  وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
90:9.  And a tongue and two lips,
﴿٩٠:١٠﴾  وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ
90:10.  And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways?
﴿٩٠:١١﴾  فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ
90:11.  But he hath not attempted the Ascent
﴿٩٠:١٢﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ
90:12.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is!
﴿٩٠:١٣﴾  فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
90:13.  (It is) to free a slave,
﴿٩٠:١٤﴾  أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ
90:14.  And to feed in the day of hunger
﴿٩٠:١٥﴾  يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
90:15.  An orphan near of kin,
﴿٩٠:١٦﴾  أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
90:16.  Or some poor wretch in misery,
﴿٩٠:١٧﴾  ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ
90:17.  And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and export one another to pity.
﴿٩٠:١٨﴾  أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ
90:18.  Their place will be on the right hand.
﴿٩٠:١٩﴾  وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ
90:19.  But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand.
﴿٩٠:٢٠﴾  عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ
90:20.  Fire will be an awning over them.
Surah 91

Ash-Shams (The Sun)

﴿٩١:١﴾  وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
91:1.  By the sun and his brightness,
﴿٩١:٢﴾  وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا
91:2.  And the moon when she followeth him,
﴿٩١:٣﴾  وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا
91:3.  And the day when it revealeth him,
﴿٩١:٤﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا
91:4.  And the night when it enshroudeth him,
﴿٩١:٥﴾  وَالسَّمَاء وَمَا بَنَاهَا
91:5.  And the heaven and Him who built it,
﴿٩١:٦﴾  وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا
91:6.  And the earth and Him who spread it,
﴿٩١:٧﴾  وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا
91:7.  And a soul and Him who perfected it
﴿٩١:٨﴾  فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا
91:8.  And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
﴿٩١:٩﴾  قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا
91:9.  He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,
﴿٩١:١٠﴾  وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا
91:10.  And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.
﴿٩١:١١﴾  كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا
91:11.  (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride.
﴿٩١:١٢﴾  إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا
91:12.  When the basest of them broke forth
﴿٩١:١٣﴾  فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا
91:13.  And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink!
﴿٩١:١٤﴾  فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا
91:14.  But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and razed (their dwellings).
﴿٩١:١٥﴾  وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا
91:15.  He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).
Surah 92

Al-Lail (The Night)

﴿٩٢:١﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى
92:1.  By the night enshrouding
﴿٩٢:٢﴾  وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى
92:2.  And the day resplendent
﴿٩٢:٣﴾  وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَى
92:3.  And Him Who hath created male and female,
﴿٩٢:٤﴾  إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّى
92:4.  Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends).
﴿٩٢:٥﴾  فَأَمَّا مَن أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى
92:5.  As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah)
﴿٩٢:٦﴾  وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى
92:6.  And believeth in goodness;
﴿٩٢:٧﴾  فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَى
92:7.  Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease.
﴿٩٢:٨﴾  وَأَمَّا مَن بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى
92:8.  But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent,
﴿٩٢:٩﴾  وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى
92:9.  And disbelieveth in goodness;
﴿٩٢:١٠﴾  فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى
92:10.  Surely We will ease his way unto adversity.
﴿٩٢:١١﴾  وَمَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّى
92:11.  His riches will not save him when he perisheth.
﴿٩٢:١٢﴾  إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَى
92:12.  Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance
﴿٩٢:١٣﴾  وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْآخِرَةَ وَالْأُولَى
92:13.  And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former.
﴿٩٢:١٤﴾  فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّى
92:14.  Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire
﴿٩٢:١٥﴾  لَا يَصْلَاهَا إِلَّا الْأَشْقَى
92:15.  Which only the most wretched must endure,
﴿٩٢:١٦﴾  الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى
92:16.  He who denieth and turneth away.
﴿٩٢:١٧﴾  وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى
92:17.  Far removed from it will be the righteous
﴿٩٢:١٨﴾  الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّى
92:18.  Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness),
﴿٩٢:١٩﴾  وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَى
92:19.  And none hath with him any favor for reward,
﴿٩٢:٢٠﴾  إِلَّا ابْتِغَاء وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَى
92:20.  Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High.
﴿٩٢:٢١﴾  وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَى
92:21.  He verily will be content.
Surah 93

Ad-Duha (The Forenoon - After Sunrise)

﴿٩٣:١﴾  وَالضُّحَى
93:1.  By the morning hours
﴿٩٣:٢﴾  وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى
93:2.  And by the night when it is stillest,
﴿٩٣:٣﴾  مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى
93:3.  Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,
﴿٩٣:٤﴾  وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الْأُولَى
93:4.  And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former
﴿٩٣:٥﴾  وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَى
93:5.  And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.
﴿٩٣:٦﴾  أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَى
93:6.  Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?
﴿٩٣:٧﴾  وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَى
93:7.  Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?
﴿٩٣:٨﴾  وَوَجَدَكَ عَائِلًا فَأَغْنَى
93:8.  Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?
﴿٩٣:٩﴾  فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ
93:9.  Therefor the orphan oppress not,
﴿٩٣:١٠﴾  وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ
93:10.  Therefor the beggar drive not away,
﴿٩٣:١١﴾  وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ
93:11.  Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.
Surah 94

Ash-Sharh (The Opening Forth)

﴿٩٤:١﴾  أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ
94:1.  Have We not caused thy bosom to dilate,
﴿٩٤:٢﴾  وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ
94:2.  And eased thee of the burden
﴿٩٤:٣﴾  الَّذِي أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ
94:3.  Which weighed down thy back;
﴿٩٤:٤﴾  وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ
94:4.  And exalted thy fame?
﴿٩٤:٥﴾  فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
94:5.  But lo! with hardship goeth ease,
﴿٩٤:٦﴾  إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
94:6.  Lo! with hardship goeth ease;
﴿٩٤:٧﴾  فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانصَبْ
94:7.  So when thou art relieved, still toil
﴿٩٤:٨﴾  وَإِلَى رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ
94:8.  And strive to please thy Lord.
Surah 95

At-Tin (The Fig)

﴿٩٥:١﴾  وَالتِّينِ وَالزَّيْتُونِ
95:1.  By the fig and the olive,
﴿٩٥:٢﴾  وَطُورِ سِينِينَ
95:2.  By Mount Sinai,
﴿٩٥:٣﴾  وَهَذَا الْبَلَدِ الْأَمِينِ
95:3.  And by this land made safe;
﴿٩٥:٤﴾  لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ
95:4.  Surely We created man of the best stature
﴿٩٥:٥﴾  ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَاهُ أَسْفَلَ سَافِلِينَ
95:5.  Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low,
﴿٩٥:٦﴾  إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
95:6.  Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.
﴿٩٥:٧﴾  فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِالدِّينِ
95:7.  So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment?
﴿٩٥:٨﴾  أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ بِأَحْكَمِ الْحَاكِمِينَ
95:8.  Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges?
Surah 96

Al-Alaq (The Clot)

﴿٩٦:١﴾  اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
96:1.  Read: In the name of thy Lord who createth,
﴿٩٦:٢﴾  خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
96:2.  Createth man from a clot.
﴿٩٦:٣﴾  اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
96:3.  Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,
﴿٩٦:٤﴾  الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
96:4.  Who teacheth by the pen,
﴿٩٦:٥﴾  عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
96:5.  Teacheth man that which be knew not.
﴿٩٦:٦﴾  كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَى
96:6.  Nay, but verily man is rebellious
﴿٩٦:٧﴾  أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَى
96:7.  That he thinketh himself independent!
﴿٩٦:٨﴾  إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى
96:8.  Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.
﴿٩٦:٩﴾  أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى
96:9.  Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
﴿٩٦:١٠﴾  عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّى
96:10.  A slave when he prayeth?
﴿٩٦:١١﴾  أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى
96:11.  Hast thou seen if he (relieth) on the guidance (of Allah)
﴿٩٦:١٢﴾  أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى
96:12.  Or enjoineth piety?
﴿٩٦:١٣﴾  أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى
96:13.  Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?
﴿٩٦:١٤﴾  أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى
96:14.  Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?
﴿٩٦:١٥﴾  كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
96:15.  Nay, but if he cease not, We will seize him by the forelock--
﴿٩٦:١٦﴾  نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
96:16.  The lying, sinful forelock--
﴿٩٦:١٧﴾  فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَه
96:17.  Then let him call upon his henchmen!
﴿٩٦:١٨﴾  سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
96:18.  We will call the guards of hell.
﴿٩٦:١٩﴾  كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ
96:19.  Nay! Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).
Surah 97

Al-Qadr (The Night of Decree)

﴿٩٧:١﴾  إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
97:1.  Lo! We revealed it on the Night of Power.
﴿٩٧:٢﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ
97:2.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Night of Power is!
﴿٩٧:٣﴾  لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
97:3.  The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
﴿٩٧:٤﴾  تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ
97:4.  The angels and the Spirit descend therein, by the permission of their Lord, with all decrees.
﴿٩٧:٥﴾  سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ
97:5.  (That night is) Peace until the rising of the dawn.
Surah 98

Al-Baiyinah (The Clear Evidence)

﴿٩٨:١﴾  لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ
98:1.  Those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters could not have left off (erring) till the clear proof came unto them,
﴿٩٨:٢﴾  رَسُولٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ يَتْلُو صُحُفًا مُّطَهَّرَةً
98:2.  A messenger from Allah, reading purified pages
﴿٩٨:٣﴾  فِيهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ
98:3.  Containing correct scriptures.
﴿٩٨:٤﴾  وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ
98:4.  Nor were the People of the Scripture divided until after the clear proof came unto them.
﴿٩٨:٥﴾  وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاء وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَذَلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ
98:5.  And they are ordered naught else than to serve Allah, keeping religion pure for Him, as men by nature upright, and to establish worship and to pay the poor due. That is true religion.
﴿٩٨:٦﴾  إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ
98:6.  Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings.
﴿٩٨:٧﴾  إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ
98:7.  (And) lo! those who believe and do good works are the best of created beings.
﴿٩٨:٨﴾  جَزَاؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا رَّضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ
98:8.  Their reward is with their Lord: Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow, wherein they dwell for ever. Allah hath pleasure in them and they have pleasure in Him. This is (in store) for him who feareth his Lord.
Surah 99

Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake)

﴿٩٩:١﴾  إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا
99:1.  When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake
﴿٩٩:٢﴾  وَأَخْرَجَتِ الْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا
99:2.  And Earth yieldeth up her burdens,
﴿٩٩:٣﴾  وَقَالَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا لَهَا
99:3.  And man saith: What aileth her?
﴿٩٩:٤﴾  يَوْمَئِذٍ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا
99:4.  That day she will relate her chronicles,
﴿٩٩:٥﴾  بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحَى لَهَا
99:5.  Because thy Lord inspireth her.
﴿٩٩:٦﴾  يَوْمَئِذٍ يَصْدُرُ النَّاسُ أَشْتَاتًا لِّيُرَوْا أَعْمَالَهُمْ
99:6.  That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds.
﴿٩٩:٧﴾  فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ
99:7.  And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then,
﴿٩٩:٨﴾  وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ
99:8.  And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then.
Surah 100

Al-'Adiyat (Those That Run)

﴿١٠٠:١﴾  وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا
100:1.  By the snorting coursers,
﴿١٠٠:٢﴾  فَالْمُورِيَاتِ قَدْحًا
100:2.  Striking sparks of fire
﴿١٠٠:٣﴾  فَالْمُغِيرَاتِ صُبْحًا
100:3.  And scouring to the raid at dawn,
﴿١٠٠:٤﴾  فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِ نَقْعًا
100:4.  Then, therewith, with their trail of dust,
﴿١٠٠:٥﴾  فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِ جَمْعًا
100:5.  Cleaving, as one, the center (of the foe),
﴿١٠٠:٦﴾  إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ
100:6.  Lo! man is an ingrate unto his Lord
﴿١٠٠:٧﴾  وَإِنَّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ
100:7.  And lo! he is a witness unto that;
﴿١٠٠:٨﴾  وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ
100:8.  And lo! in the love of wealth he is violent.
﴿١٠٠:٩﴾  أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ
100:9.  Knoweth he not that, when the contents of the graves are poured forth
﴿١٠٠:١٠﴾  وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي الصُّدُورِ
100:10.  And the secrets of the breasts are made known.
﴿١٠٠:١١﴾  إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌ
100:11.  On that day will their Lord be perfectly informed concerning them.
Surah 101

Al-Qari'ah (The Striking Hour)

﴿١٠١:١﴾  الْقَارِعَةُ
101:1.  The Calamity!
﴿١٠١:٢﴾  مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
101:2.  What is the Calamity?
﴿١٠١:٣﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
101:3.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what the calamity is!
﴿١٠١:٤﴾  يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ
101:4.  A day wherein mankind will be as thickly scattered moths
﴿١٠١:٥﴾  وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ
101:5.  And the mountains will become as carded wool.
﴿١٠١:٦﴾  فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
101:6.  Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),
﴿١٠١:٧﴾  فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
101:7.  He will live a pleasant life.
﴿١٠١:٨﴾  وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
101:8.  But as for him whose scales are light,
﴿١٠١:٩﴾  فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ
101:9.  The Bereft and Hungry One will be his mother.
﴿١٠١:١٠﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ
101:10.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is!
﴿١٠١:١١﴾  نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ
101:11.  Raging fire.
Surah 102

At-Takathur (The Piling Up)

﴿١٠٢:١﴾  أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ
102:1.  Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you
﴿١٠٢:٢﴾  حَتَّى زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
102:2.  Until ye come to the graves.
﴿١٠٢:٣﴾  كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
102:3.  Nay, but ye will come to know!
﴿١٠٢:٤﴾  ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
102:4.  Nay, but ye will come to know!
﴿١٠٢:٥﴾  كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ
102:5.  Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge!
﴿١٠٢:٦﴾  لَتَرَوُنَّ الْجَحِيمَ
102:6.  For ye will behold hell fire
﴿١٠٢:٧﴾  ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ
102:7.  Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision.
﴿١٠٢:٨﴾  ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ
102:8.  Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure.
Surah 103

Al-'Asr (The Time)

﴿١٠٣:١﴾  وَالْعَصْرِ
103:1.  By the declining day,
﴿١٠٣:٢﴾  إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ
103:2.  Lo! man is in a state of loss,
﴿١٠٣:٣﴾  إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ
103:3.  Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance.
Surah 104

Al-Humazah (The Slanderer)

﴿١٠٤:١﴾  وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ
104:1.  Woe unto every slandering traducer,
﴿١٠٤:٢﴾  الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُ
104:2.  Who hath gathered wealth (of this world) and arranged it.
﴿١٠٤:٣﴾  يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ
104:3.  He thinketh that his wealth will render him immortal.
﴿١٠٤:٤﴾  كَلَّا لَيُنبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ
104:4.  Nay, but verily he will be flung to the Consuming One.
﴿١٠٤:٥﴾  وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ
104:5.  Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Consuming One is!
﴿١٠٤:٦﴾  نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ
104:6.  (It is) the fire of Allah, kindled,
﴿١٠٤:٧﴾  الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ
104:7.  Which leapeth up over the hearts (of men).
﴿١٠٤:٨﴾  إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ
104:8.  Lo! it is closed in on them
﴿١٠٤:٩﴾  فِي عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍ
104:9.  In outstretched columns.
Surah 105

Al-Fil (The Elephant)

﴿١٠٥:١﴾  أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ
105:1.  Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?
﴿١٠٥:٢﴾  أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِيلٍ
105:2.  Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,
﴿١٠٥:٣﴾  وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ
105:3.  And send against them swarms of flying creatures,
﴿١٠٥:٤﴾  تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
105:4.  Which pelted them with stones of baked clay
﴿١٠٥:٥﴾  فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍ
105:5.  And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?
Surah 106

Quraish (Quraish)

﴿١٠٦:١﴾  لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ
106:1.  For the taming of Qureysh
﴿١٠٦:٢﴾  إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاء وَالصَّيْفِ
106:2.  For their taming (We cause) the caravans to set forth in winter and summer.
﴿١٠٦:٣﴾  فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ
106:3.  So let them worship the Lord of this House,
﴿١٠٦:٤﴾  الَّذِي أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَآمَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍ
106:4.  Who hath fed them against hunger and hath made them safe from fear.
Surah 107

Al-Ma'un (The Small Kindnesses)

﴿١٠٧:١﴾  أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِالدِّينِ
107:1.  Hast thou observed him who belieth religion?
﴿١٠٧:٢﴾  فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي يَدُعُّ الْيَتِيمَ
107:2.  That is he who repelleth the orphan,
﴿١٠٧:٣﴾  وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
107:3.  And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.
﴿١٠٧:٤﴾  فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ
107:4.  Ah, woe unto worshippers
﴿١٠٧:٥﴾  الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ
107:5.  Who are heedless of their prayer;
﴿١٠٧:٦﴾  الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَاؤُونَ
107:6.  Who would be seen (at worship)
﴿١٠٧:٧﴾  وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ
107:7.  Yet refuse small kindnesses!
Surah 108

Al-Kauthar (A River in Paradise)

﴿١٠٨:١﴾  إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
108:1.  Lo! We have given thee Abundance;
﴿١٠٨:٢﴾  فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
108:2.  So pray unto they Lord, and sacrifice.
﴿١٠٨:٣﴾  إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ
108:3.  Lo! It is thy insulter (and not thou) who is without posterity.
Surah 109

Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers)

﴿١٠٩:١﴾  قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ
109:1.  Say: O disbelievers!
﴿١٠٩:٢﴾  لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ
109:2.  I worship not that which ye worship;
﴿١٠٩:٣﴾  وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ
109:3.  Nor worship ye that which I worship.
﴿١٠٩:٤﴾  وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ
109:4.  And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
﴿١٠٩:٥﴾  وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ
109:5.  Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
﴿١٠٩:٦﴾  لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ
109:6.  Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.
Surah 110

An-Nasr (The Help)

﴿١١٠:١﴾  إِذَا جَاء نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ
110:1.  When Allah's succor and the triumph cometh
﴿١١٠:٢﴾  وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا
110:2.  And thou seest mankind entering the religion of Allah in troops.
﴿١١٠:٣﴾  فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا
110:3.  Then hymn the praises of thy Lord, and seek forgiveness of Him. Lo! He is ever ready to show mercy.
Surah 111

Al-Masad (The Palm Fiber)

﴿١١١:١﴾  تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ
111:1.  The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.
﴿١١١:٢﴾  مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ
111:2.  His wealth and gains will not exempt him.
﴿١١١:٣﴾  سَيَصْلَى نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ
111:3.  He will be plunged in flaming fire,
﴿١١١:٤﴾  وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ
111:4.  And his wife, the wood carrier,
﴿١١١:٥﴾  فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ
111:5.  Will have upon her neck a halter of palm fibre.
Surah 112

Al-Ikhlas (The Purity)

﴿١١٢:١﴾  قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
112:1.  Say: He is Allah, the One!
﴿١١٢:٢﴾  اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
112:2.  Allah, the eternally Besought of all!
﴿١١٢:٣﴾  لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
112:3.  He begetteth not nor was begotten.
﴿١١٢:٤﴾  وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
112:4.  And there is none comparable unto Him.
Surah 113

Al-Falaq (The Day Break)

﴿١١٣:١﴾  قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
113:1.  Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of Daybreak
﴿١١٣:٢﴾  مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
113:2.  From the evil of that which He created;
﴿١١٣:٣﴾  وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ
113:3.  From the evil of the darkness when it is intense,
﴿١١٣:٤﴾  وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ
113:4.  And from the evil of malignant witchcraft,
﴿١١٣:٥﴾  وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
113:5.  And from the evil of the envier when he envieth.
Surah 114

An-Nas (The Mankind)

﴿١١٤:١﴾  قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
114:1.  Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
﴿١١٤:٢﴾  مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
114:2.  The King of mankind,
﴿١١٤:٣﴾  إِلَهِ النَّاسِ
114:3.  The God of mankind,
﴿١١٤:٤﴾  مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
114:4.  From the evil of the sneaking whisperer,
﴿١١٤:٥﴾  الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ
114:5.  Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind,
﴿١١٤:٦﴾  مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ
114:6.  Of the jinn and of mankind.
