There is still time to give
Zakat
|
|
Every Muslim is
required to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a
token of thankfulness to God for having enabled him to observe fasts.
One of the main
purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to provide those who fasted with the means of making up for
any errors during the month of fasting. Zakat al-Fitr also gives the poor
the means to celebrate the festival of breaking the fast (Eid al-Fitr) along with the rest of the Muslims.
This is based upon the hadith from Ibn
Abbas who related,
"The Prophet of Allah, upon whom be God's peace and blessings, enjoined Zakat al-Fitr on those who fast to shield them from any indecent act or speech, and for the purpose of providing food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakah for the one who pays it before the
Eid prayer, and it is sadaqah for the one who pays it after the prayer."
|
Zakat-ul-Fitr is part of
the fast of Ramadan and is characterized by the following elements:
-
It must be given before Eid prayers,
unless one has a valid reason for a delay.
-
It should be given on behalf of every
member of the household, whether male or female, adult or minor.

The
secret of the night of power |
|
As creatures aware of our own existence, we human beings have a direct responsibility for our survival on earth. For this reason, each individual needs to know where to obtain whatever is necessary to ensure this survival. The name of the process of becoming acquainted with the environment containing the natural resources we need is reading, and in order to survive, even the animals do it. When hungry or thirsty they neither eat rocks nor drink sand. This shows that reading requires no verbal indications from the Lord of the Worlds, for early on He revealed the text implicitly in the laws of nature which apply to the 'dabbah', or corporeal living creatures.

The
powerless and the night of power |
|
I sit pensively in front of my PC, my modern-day qalam (pen), trying to capture my thoughts and shape in words the echoes of my heart Words may be mere symbols, but they do carry meaning, express feelings and convey ideas. Through words we are able to communicate with one another, understand experiences, shape expectations and even relate our dreams and aspirations. Through these words I relate, but relate in silence.

Laylatul Qadr
Glory be to Allah. What has been sent down of trials during this night? What has been sent down of treasures, so that the denizens of the bedchambers will be awakened? O Lord! To be clothed in this world by naked in the Hereafter.
Prophet
Muhammad
