Pay
your Zakat-ul-Fitr before Eid
|
|
Every
Muslim is required to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of
Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to God for having enabled him to observe
fasts.
One of the main
purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to provide those who fasted with the means of making
up for any errors during the month of fasting. Zakat al-Fitr also gives the poor
the means to celebrate the festival of breaking the fast (Eid al-Fitr)
along with the rest of the Muslims.
Zakat-ul-Fitr is part of
the fast of Ramadan and is characterized by the following elements:
-
It must be
given before Eid prayers, unless one has a valid reason for a delay.
-
It should be
given on behalf of every member of the household, whether male or female,
adult or minor.

The
Essence of Ramadan |
|
Muslims throughout the world are now observing Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting in accordance with the dictates of the Qur'an - the Muslim Holy Scripture, in which they are commanded by Allah:
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint
(Taqwa). (Quran 2:183)
The word "Ramadan" comes from the Arabic root word for "parched thirst" and "sun-baked ground." Through fasting, a Muslim experiences hunger and thirst, and sympathizes with those in the world who have little to eat and drink every day. It teaches him/her to be charitable. Through increased charity, Muslims develop feelings of generosity and good-will toward others.

Farewell:
A poem about the last days of Ramadan
|
|
Drifting away
Gently with the tides,
Taking the blessed days and nights
With you, oh precious boat!
Won't you slow down a bit?
I've got so little of your gifts!
Stranded on the ground
Of this transient land,
Caught in the mirage
Nothing but heated sand
I embraced with both hands!

Remembering God
The Almighty God says,
When a servant thinks of Me, I am near.
When he invokes Me, I am with him.
If he reflects on Me in secret, I reply in secret,
And if he acknowledges Me in an assembly,
I acknowledge him in a far superior assembly.
- Prophet Muhammad
as reported by Abu Huraira
