We came together for a noble purpose: to study the book of Allah , the Qur�an. The Qur�an is the speech of Allah, innahu kalaam Allah. This is the speech of the Creator talking directly to the creation. That is why the father of the great poet Alam Muhammed Iqbal told him as a young boy, �When you read the Qur�an, read the Qur�an as though Allah, God Almighty, is talking directly to you.�
Praying is a way of communicating with the the Almighty. We often tend to pray and remember Allah (swt) only in misery and hard times. We ask for daily needs and forget the higher spiritual life we should struggle to achieve during our probation time on earth.
By highlighting a set of people, instead of a list of to-dos, the Qur�an has pointed us towards a religion that is not individualistic, but is based around being part of a community. It is asking us to seek out people from whom we can learn, and good company with whom we can be.
Nouman Ali Khan is an American Muslim speaker and founder, CEO and lead instructor at The Bayyinah Institute for Arabic and Qur'anic Studies. Nouman founded Bayyinah in 2006, after serving as a professor of Arabic at Nassau Community College.
