Dr. Shahid Athar is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine and Chief, Section of Endocrinbiology at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduating from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan, he did his medical residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and an Endocrine Fellowship at Indiana University. He has been in private practice of medicine and endocrinology since 1974. He has published many medical articles, and over sixty articles on Islam. He is a co-chairman of the Medical Ethics Committee of the Islamic Medical Association of North America and has authored Reflections of an American Muslim and Health Concerns for Muslims and has contributed to Ramadan: Motivating Believers to Action: An Interfaith Perspective (all published by KAZI Publications, Inc.). His forthcoming publications include Interfaith: Why and How? and Islamic Medical Ethics. He has lectured extensively throughout the United! States on Islam at churches, mosques, colleges and universities.
