This might sound like a silly question, but if a mother is breastfeeding her child can she still fast? Or would that break her fast?

Breastfeeding does not break the fast. Pregnant and breast feeding mothers are in the category of "special needs" and if they do not fast, it is not a sin upon them. There are some mothers that breastfeed and fast, especially when the baby is also eating and drinking something more than breastmilk. Breast feeding does not break the fast nor does ot break the wudu. However if she feels that she cannot cope and that fasting would effect her health or the baby's nutritional needs, she can chose not to fast and make up the fasts later. -NS
