Perhaps this is not the right place to ask this question, but here I go. Why does Allah allowing suffering in the elderly such as alzhiemer's disease. My poor mother-in-law can not rember anything and often is pleading with god to take her. If allah is most compassionate and mericiful why does he not take her.  I've prayed and prayed for her appointed time to come. i can not bear to watch her like this.  and don't tell me it is because she is not Muslim.  it make me wonder if there really is a compassiona and merciful God anyplace in the world.   is there anyplace int the qur'an that addresses this or helps me to deal with this.

Its in a hadith. It says that any bad thing which happens to a person, from a fork hurting him to death itself, in return he gets his sins forgiven. Any sadness you feel, you get your sins forgiven, any pain, physical or emotional, u get your sins forgiven. So Allah is cleaning her of her sins. May He have mercy on her soul.

Suffering, as long as we're on earth, is inevitable. You cant avoid pain and sadness. So Allah said that whenever this happens to you, he will forgive your sins the same way leaves of a tree fall off of it. So its good that Allah still didnt take her. I'll post a story here soon which will help you inshAllah..

What about them? Christianity say sthey are pure sinners. Islam says they are pure. Innocent is what they are. If they die, they go immediately to heaven, no questions asked.

Senekerk,

Here are some verses from the Qur'an that might help you understand the nature of human suffering in this life:

"It is Allah who creates you and takes your souls at death; and of you are some who are sent back to a feeble age, so that they know nothing after having known (much): for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful."  Qur'an 16:70

"Do men think that they will be left alone on saying 'we believe', and that they will not be tested?"  Qur'an 29:2

"Everyone is going to taste death and We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good.  And to Us you will be returned."  Qur'an 21:35

"Behold We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, (showing) which of them are best in conduct; and verily, (in time) We shall reduce all that is on it to barren dust!"  Qur'an 18:7-8

"And know ye that your possessions and your progeny are but a trial; and that it is Allah with whom lies your highest reward.'  Qur'an 8:28

"Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him (in his later life): and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight.  Verily, We have shown him the way: (and it rests with him to prove himself) either grateful or ungrateful."  Qur'an 76:2-3

"And most certainly shall We try you by means of danger, and hunger, and loss of wordly goods, of lives and of (labour's) fruits.  But give glad tidings unto those who are patient in adversity - who, when calamity befalls them, say, "Verily, unto Allah do we belong and , verily, unto Him we shall return."  It is they upon whom their Sustainer's blessings and grace are bestowed, and it is they, they who are on the right path!" Qur'an 2:155-157

Try to keep in mind that even the trials of others are trials of our own.  All the horrible things that make us question Allah: death, sickness, suffering children, poverty, even Alzheimer's...all these things are trials that we need to show patience through; help each other through, and maintain our devotion and worship of Allah through.  Being tried in this life is a gift from our Most Merciful Creator.  Can you begin to see what this means?

Through all trials, keep this in mind:

"If ye would count up the favours of Allah, never would ye be able to number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."  Qur'an 16:18

This life is not meant to be a lovely picnic, dear, it is frought with trials and suffering in order that we can show our Creator that we are deserving of His Mercy and Forgiveness and so that we can be rewarded in the eternal Afterlife with the Paradise!  Do you see how Merciful is Allah?  Even our trials and suffering are great favours to us from our Loving Lord so that we may reap the benefits of our belief and worship of Allah in the Afterlife!

Peace, ummziba.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words...they break my soul ~
