Covering the head for men is not compuslory, however is sunnah, and thus reccomended. Thus if you at some point do not have any sort of head covering at hand, do not think that your Salat wont be accepted etc.
You may cover your head any way you want, preferably with a skull-cap or turban. However Muslim men should take care that thier head-covering must not resemble that of a non-muslim. Thus, dont wear the jewish skull-cap, cz its different frm the muslim one. Also, when wearing a Turban, try and ensure you don't wrap it like Sikhs do. . . Ive seen muslim men wrap a turban the Sikh-way, and with the beard, anyone can mistake them as a nonmuslim i.e. Sikh.
If you do not have any of the above, no fear. . . you can simply wrap a plain handkerchief around your head. Just make sure it does not have any animal/human symbols on it. As for a Turban, you only need a long cloth to wrap one. I'm sure U-tube has 'how-to-wear-a-turban' vids. . .
Also , its not compuslory to cover ur head as a muslim, its a sunnah i.e. recommended act i.e. part of the identity of a muslim male. Which means that it is not a sin to leave the head uncovered for muslim males.
As for going to the Masjid. Alhamdulilah you can go any time you want and pray anytime you want (the extra/Nifl prayers) The 5 compulsory prayers however have thier specific time durations. HOWEVER, one cannot pray when the sun is setting & the sun is rising. This is to distinguish ourselves from the pagan sun-worshippers of the time, so ppl dont mistake muslims as worshipping the sun.
For the 5 complusory prayers, if you want to pray in a congregation (at the masjid) - strongly reccomended for Muslim Males. . . you have to be present at a specific time i.e. Azaan, congregation time. All cities, countries have seperate prayer timings, according to respective time-zones. If you reside in a muslim country, all you have to do is follow the Call of Prayer i.e. Azaan. However if you reside in a non-muslim country, you will have to check the Salah timings with your local Mosque, or online.
If your nearest Mosque is far, or u have transport issues. . .there is no harm in praying at home. If you can find fellow muslim brothers in ur own nieghborhood, you can form your own jamaat/congregation anyplace, anywhere at all. You need minimum 3 ppl for a congregation. Also, if you dont have fellow muslims around, you can pray alone at home/office/any place.
Allah does not put any hardships on His followers. . .thus if one cannot go to the Mosque, or find a congregation or has other problems. . . there is no sin if one prays alone. However one must pray the 5 prayers, If one cannot pray standing, one should sit, if one cannot sit, one must lie down and pray.
No particular days to go to the mosque, except when attending the Friday congregation, or the Eid congregations. Apart from that Muslime men should try to(if they can) attend the congreagtion minimum 5 times a day every day. . . .
This is a rather lengthy /detailed issue, so I put in whatver I could think of. Feel free to ask any particular concerns u may have.
