Yeah I have found that some scholars take the position that intentionally breaking the fast can not be made up, but I have not seen any evidence for this opinion. Do you recall the hadith reference?

As Salamu Alaikum bro and sis.Ramadan Mubarak.Just the other day after Iftar a visiting Shayk read some Hadith about if someone intentionaly breaks there fast and it was said that the person could never make it up even if they fast the 60 aditional days straight thus was said to be the penalty according to sharia law. And or feed 60 hungry people for 60 days it is serious situation and im relating to you if one breaks fast intentionaly.Sis.isis no names next time the reason for the Shayk recitation he said because a brother told him earlier that day that he broke his fast because he was on a journey on foot and he got realy thirsty and so he drank some water.i was there to witness the brother saying this and the Shayk mentioned no names(May Allah Bless him).u can make up unintentionaly breaking your fast yes only one day.May Allah forgive our sins we commit knowingly and unknowingly O Allah you know us inside and out please forgive us and give us your Jannah dispite of our short comings. Ameen

Khair Insha'Allah. The best advice I know is to seek forgiveness, and as Seekshidayath mentioned, make up the day.
We are all so very different, as I find it almost impossible to eat that early in the morning, although I try to at least drink a little water. Here in Los Angeles, we are fasting from about 5:15am to 7:40pm. At night after taraweeh prayers I am completely exhausted.

As Salamu Alaikum,
JazakAllah khayr for correcting me brother. I shud have confirmed if it was intentional/unintentional. I assumed that, the time of fasting was already started. Anyways, sis, as far as i know, he is to make-up that fast as mentioned in the first post. |

Thank you both for your kind answers.
This sleepiness seems to be getting worse by the day... I really don't even hear the alarm clock! Now it is my husband who must wake me up every morning.
Dear Abuayisha,
Sunrise here is around 4.30 a.m. and sundown at 8.30 p.m. (the exact time changes every day of a couple of minutes) It is not that my husband is too old or somehow debilitated, he is however a handworker, working from 7a.m. to 7p.m. with only 30min break. He did fast for the rest of the day after 5 a.m.

Seekshidayath, what is the evidence that he makes up one day for this intentional action of not fasting?http://www.ahlalhdeeth.com/vbe/showthread.php?t=5812 Isis pt, did he continue to fast after eating in the morning? The time of 5am, is this based upon local prayer schedule times, the calling of the athan, or the sky? If he only ate briefly, perhaps the time was still in which would have allowed for eating. In other words, if it was dark outside at 5am, no light upon the horizon, the time period was still in for eating and drinking. Is his age or health such that missing the morning meal would have adverse health effects? Edited by abuayisha - 18 August 2010 at 11:30am |

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah
Welcome to Islamicity Ramadan Mubarak to you too I can understand sis, how much sleepy we feel. Don't regret. It was n't intentional. Anyways, sis, he can fast any day before the Ramadhan of next year. It's just one day that he is to fast. It's better that he does n't delay to make-up this fast {any day after the day of Eid but before next Ramadan} |
