I think the military occupation needs to end. BTW another Palestinian man was shot dead today... this time in the West Bank. He was seeking to cross the barrier that annexes much of the West Bank to look for work. He was 21 years old. No mention of him carrying any weapons or belonging to an armed group. Just looking for work. Murdered with a bullet. So far, four unarmed Palestinians have been murdered by the IDF since the "ceasefire" with Hamas came into effect. Rockets fired from Gaza: zero. Palestinians shot dead by the Israeli army: four. Who is the aggressor? Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian who was trying to cross a security barrier to enter Israel from the occupied West Bank on Saturday. Odai al Darawish, 21, was trying to cross into Israel to find work, his family said. He was taken to a hospital in Israel where he was pronounced dead, they said. An Israeli military spokesman said soldiers had opened fire when they saw a man trying to cross the barrier in an area south of the West Bank city of Hebron. "The soldiers followed the rules of engagement and fired towards his legs," the spokesman said. Hospital officials were not available for comment. Israel says the security barrier - a network of fences interspersed with concrete walls and projected to be 720 km (450 miles) long when complete - has prevented Palestinian suicide bombers entering Israel from the West Bank.
Palestinians say it is a way to grab land because it encroaches onto
occupied territory, and the International Court of Justice has ruled it
illegal. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/idf-troops-kill-palestinian-attempting-to-cross-west-bank-security-barrier-1.493557 Edited by TG12345 - 12 January 2013 at 8:15pm |

Provocative, or protective? "Destroy homes? Allow settlers to beat up farmers on their way to work and kids walking to school?"Now, I totally agree with you about these injustices, and do not deny that these are injustices being committed by the Israeli's. There needs to be a way to create trust between the people so that there can be peace. |

Are the IDF soldiers not being provocative by patrolling the border? Shooting at fishing boats and destroying nets? Arresting and humiliating people trying to make a living? Are they not being provocative in Hebron (and other parts of the West Bank) where they hold up people at checkpoints? Destroy homes? Allow settlers to beat up farmers on their way to work and kids walking to school? Does that justify killing Israelis? |

I am very sorry for the death of this young man, but you do not think these young men were being provocative by being in a place in numbers in which they knew they would be provoking unease? An area they knew to be off limits? You do not think this was provocation to create yet another skirmish which they could use to their advantage?

Please take care to notice that there are no rockets falling on Israel.
Neither the Palestinian man who was shot or the two others were shooting
at the IDF or Israelis. They simply got too close to the fence that
Israel erected.
He was walking on his own land and got too close for an Israeli soldiers' comfort. So he was shot and killed. Don't forget this the next time Israel or its supporters will say that killings of Palestinians are only in "self-defence" or a "response" to rocket attacks. Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian and seriously wounded another in the northern Gaza Strip near the border with Israel on Friday, the Islamist group Hamas and hospital officials said. The Israeli military said the soldiers opened fire after dozens of Palestinians approached the border fence, an area Israel has long designated as off-limits to Gazans, citing past attempts to attack Israeli patrols along the frontier. "The (Israel Defense Forces) will not tolerate any attempt to damage the security fence and harm Israel's sovereignty," a spokesman said. Anwar Al-Mamlouk, 21, was in the outdoor area studying for an exam when he was killed, according to his brother Hani, who was not harmed in the incident. The frontier has been relatively quiet since Israel and Hamas agreed on Nov. 21 to a ceasefire that ended eight days of fighting in which 170 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed. Since the truce, three Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli troops along the border.http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/hamas-idf-soldiers-kill-palestinian-along-gaza-border-1.493487 |
