Angel, Israfil, agree. Let others recognize/judge us from what we do/write/say not from our attribute. Because there is possibility that a member who doesn't like a certain religion and pretend to be one, and show a bad attitude/opinion about the religion. However with current system also not free from possibility. Edited by semar |

Angel I agree, eventually these indicators can lead to be discriminatory as you say, would be stereotypical and it also forces people to identify themselves when religion is a personal preference.

I disagree with the indictors, there's no need for it, It will just put labels and names against people and sterotype them.
Isn't the forum search enough |

True all above which are good ideas, but if we see IC history most of the people that come here lay their intentions out already i.e insulting Islam etc usually people of this kind lay their agenda out as well as their religious belief. As far as the gender part is concerned its another way you can limit someone from discussing issues. For instance in the womens section let's say someone makes a subject which is also titled "WOMENN ONLY" and a male decides to respond in there, the moderators (or those who create this website) could restrict members based on their gender which can also be a form of discrimination. You can make programs which identify members by their gender becaue I have a geek friend of mine who runs the computer cafe at Standford university and he tells me certain programs that he runs he can restrict people for having a certain type of I.D WHEW! All in all its possible to run into these problems and all though I'm optimistic about everyone here being honest its not always so. I'd like to think everyones honest but I don't know everyone here so I can't say who and who aren't honest. |

Assalamu alaikum, Yes, I think it would be nice to have gender and religion indicators. And I agree, Angela, that some might lie and some could leave it blank, but for those who wish to use them, it could make things a bit clearer around here! I would also like to see indicators showing what threads a user has posted on. Peace, ummziba. |

I just think it would be nice. Yes, some people would lie, some people would leave it blank. But I feel the majority of people would be fairly honest. I changed my avatar to a cross to identify myself as Christian even though my church kinda frowns on the cross as a symbol. I'm just trying to get an avatar that makes sense for me. It would be easy for me to be able to Select "Christian - Other" on a list and have a pretty little dragonfly as my avatar. |

Salaam, Angela brought up a good idea about the gender indicator and although what I'm saying here is not a complaint I thought I bring it up here since the idea came from here. But in response to that sister Angela I'm sure you're aware that the internet is very broad not only of people but of various religious affiliates and although the idea of gender identification is good not all would be honest and the same can be said for religion because I've seen it happen here. I believe your idea came from members right? |
