'Afterlife' in Islam includes: 

1) Grave and Barzakh, followed by...
2) Day of Judgement, followed by...
3) Paradise or Hellfire


I recommend an excellent book by 'Umar Sulaiman Al-Ashqar (His Aqeedah books are easy to read): 

Paradise and Hell


It explains everything about Paradise and Hellfire, and answers questions you've always wanted to ask.
