David,

Two down and two more to go.

There is no Shaikh Ahmad Darwish. The translator in English is Alan Darwish.

I have spoken with a friend who is himself a 90% Sufi, waiting to achieve the remaining ten percent. According to him, Ghazali learnt  a lot about the sayings of Jesus from the Aramaic-speaking Syrian old folks who had heard them from the past generations of their elders.

While we the ordinary Muslims do our religious duties as told, the Sufis go further than that. In their constant devotion to God, they keep moving and crave for being nearer to God spiritually and their concentration and devotion is so great that they feel closer to God and far, far away from this world, which they live in.

He gave me an example: While sitting in a chair, a Sufi can feel as if he is somewhere on the horizon. They have no love or desire for anything material or worldly and they just do not cling to the Earth. Very mystic, indeed.

Best Regards

BMZ

I have a basic familiarity with al-Ghazzali and have read "Alchemy of Happiness" and "A Niche for Light".  He was so reknown that many specious works seem to have been attributed to him, so I question the authenticity of this collection.  It is not included in his corpus on the al-Ghazzali website.

The link is actually four separate documents.  Any insight or scholarship you (or anyone) can provide is much appreciated.

Good Day, David

I tried the link http://tny.se/2bx  but I can't get that page.

Who is Sheykh Ahmad Darwish? (I just heard his name today from you)

Imam Ghazali was a brilliant Muslim scholar, a great Soofi (Sufi) and a man devout to God Almighty.

If you have saved a copy of that page, please post here so that I can read and let you have my comments.

I have come across this document several times.

http://tny.se/2bx

Immediate questions are:

Who is Sheykh Ahmad Darwish?

Is this really a collection by al-Ghazzali?

Is there an actual document somewhere?

What is relevant to modern Islam?
