There are 4 acceptable means to derive religous, and these methods are names after the those who founded the methodologies.

Imam Malik, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shfi, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal. These methodologies are given the term "madhab". The religous law from these four schools of thought are all derived from the primary texts of Islam, the Quran and Sunnah, and their texts give us the opinions of the best way to pray, to pay zakah, and all other rleligous law. Those who can give an opinion have studied under the feet of a qualified scholar for many, many, many long years and have aquired mastery over many skills needed to issue religous opinion.

It is obligatory for Muslims to seek out those who know more than you for knowledge. And one should make sure that the source is valid with a continuous source back to the Prophet (saw).

I will give a brief description to your questions and these are based upon the best works that scholars have veer produced based upon the primary texts in Islam.

Af far as where to gaze, Malikis have given an opinion that one may look forward, while the other madhabs have given the opinion that one should gaze down where one will place their head in sajdah.

The more popular opinions regarding the position of the hand is together at the navel, together at the chest (near the heart), or at the sides.

The differences between the madhabs can slightly vary over minor points due to wording in the primary texts or insufficient evidence. All four madhabs are correct.

In my signature, there is a link (guiding helper) to an online book of Maliki fiq (religous law). Two common Shaffi texts in the english language are Al Maqasid (easy to follow and not overly long), and Reliance of the Traveller.

I know of these off hand. There are also Hanifi books, and if you are interested I will look at my bookshelf and give you the info!

Hope this helps.

farhan asi.

Hope you will not mind if I answer your question. I don't know who is Dr. Naik as I have not heard much about him in the region that I live, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Salaath in Qur'aan means prayers, an act of worshipping God Almighty. Qur'aan describes the act as standing (Qaim), bowing down or kneel (Ruku) and Sajda (Prostration with forehead on the ground).

You must have read the verses that show all those acts carried out by Maryam (Mary), Zakariah (Zeccharias) and others.

Prophet was the one who taught people the prayers and he did it by standing, then bowing down/kneeling, prostration and sitting down.

Thus our dear Prophet combined all the three acts of worshipping God Almighty in the prayers that he taught and did. The basic three acts remain the same in all sects of Islam.

It does not matter whether one hangs down the hands straight or one folds them across. The three acts of standing before God, bowing down and prostration are the key acts of prayers in Islam.

For Maryam (Mary), the verse tells us that God told her,"Ya Maryam-uqnuti lay-rabbakay, wasjudi warka-ee ma-ar raakayeen"

"O'Maryam,be devout to your Lord, do the sajda and follow the people who bow before God."

For Zakaria, the verse tells us that he used to stand in the Mihrab, praying to God.(Wa howa qaa'imuin-yussallee fil-mihraab".

In Surah Hajj, "Ya Ayyuhal-lazeena aama-nur-ka-oo wasjudoo wa'abudoo rabbakum.................."

Hope this helped.

Meri english itni haigh nahi hai keh mein english mein sawal kar sakoon. Mera Dr. Zakir Naik say aik sawal hai .......

Holy Quran mein "Salat" (jis ka hum matlab namaz latay hain)  taqreeban 700 martaba aya hai. Quran mein taharat ka tareeqa bhi aya hai yani woozo karnay ka. Mera sawal yeh hai keh Salat ada karnay ka tareeqa kion nahi hai. Agar namaz parhi jaye tu kaisay parhi jaye? Jab keh aap ko maloom hai keh muslims mein pata nahi kitnay firqay ban chukay hain, aur har firqa apnay tareeqa say namaz parhta hai? Agar un ko kaha jaye keh aap ghalt parh rahy ho tu woh is ki daleel mein Hadees(S.A.W) dikha kar chup kara datay hai. Aik New Muslim agar devbandi kay tareeqay say namaz parh raha hai tu koye Shia usay keh day keh aap ghalat namaz parh rahay ho tu us new mulim kay pass is ka kia jawab ho ga? (The End)

Mujhay is swal ka jawab Dr. Zakir Naik Sahab say chayee.mein bilkul abhi abhi iss forum mein enter howa hoon mujhay nahi pata keh meri bat kaisay Naik sahab tak phunchay gi .Agar is forum mein koye bhi meri is tehreer ko parhay tu mujhay zaroor email kray.

Assalaamualaikum,

How to place the hands in prayer:

It was narrated from Waail ibn Hujr (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) raising his hands level with his ears when he started to pray and saying takbeer, then he wrapped himself in his garment and placed his right hand on his left. Narrated by Muslim, 401.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed by a man who was praying, and who had placed his left hand on his right hand. He grabbed his arms and put his right hand on his left. (Ahmad, no. 12671)

And the hands are placed over the chest. So Insha Allah we should follow his sunnah as much as we can.
Wassalaam

Assalaamualaikum

We pray as the Prophet(saw) prayed. The Prophet (saw) has said "pray as you see me praying" (cannot find this hadith source at the moment, but its sahih insha allah).

Regarding looking at the sky:

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 717: Sahih Bukhari

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

The Prophet said, "What is wrong with those people who look towards the sky during the prayer?" His talk grew stern while delivering this speech and he said, "They should stop (looking towards the sky during the prayer); otherwise their eye-sight would be taken away."

Volume 1, Book 12, Number 718:

Narrated 'Aisha:

I asked Allah's Apostle about looking hither and thither in prayer. He replied, "It is a way of stealing by which Satan takes away (a portion) from the prayer of a person."

Regarding Hands:
Still searching for the hadith for you, but there is no such thing of keeping hands outstretched.

Wassalaam.
