   Has anyone heard of this man? What do you think of him if you have?

The September 11, 2006, Issue of The New Yorker includes an article THE MODERATE MARTYR (A radical peaceful vision of Islam) by George Packer. 

The article discusses the life and thoughts of Mahamoud Muhammad Taha, executed 1985 in Sudan for sedition and apostasy. His book "The Koran, Mustapha Mahmoud, and Modern Understanding" was published in 1970.
