Everything has to be discussed for a while to come to some conclusion. The prophet never had any musical instruments and his companions also did not have any. So let us decide about the music and close this chapter.

Then look into the alcohol and decide about it and leave the debate. The problem is that some people are putting in some own wishes in favor of music and want to carry on the debate. But we do not see any music in the lifetime of the prophet. Semar should have given the verdict on music and then called of the discussion.

i dont consider it a waste of time discussing this topic of music since it';s also part of islamic teaching. people will hav different opinions, well let it be,this is the right thread/ place to discuss. the purpose of this thread is to convey the message regarding music. if you prefer to discuss technology and so on just make a new thread i'll take part in it also.

I agree there are more pressing issues.

Assalamu alaikum,

Have you guys watch movies? You can imagine how plan there are, if the movies don't have any music or sound effect that mostly produced by musical instrument?

Anyway, debate about this will never end, already over 1400 years. Forget about this disagreement, we have many homework to do that majority of us have agree upon, such as economy, technology, democracy, education...etc, that we are lagging.

Salaams,

A parent I know told his four year old daughter that if she does notwear hijab Allah will set her hair on fire. So of course she tells al lthe other kids at school scaring them and the teacher had to explain that this is not  true. And this is for a 4-year old....

I think parents i the west face so many social challenges for their kids. The minefields are aplenty out there for both girls and boys.

So now music is the root of all evil? I suppose the Janjaweed are using portable cd players as they commit genocide and the Taliban were blasting hip hop as widows and children starved to death?

One of my best friends in the world has 7 daughters, all of whom have worn hijab since they started school with no rebellion or problems. It was just a part of the routine and never questioned. I have another friend whose daughter fights about it but she wasn't even expected to start wearing hijab until she was 8 or 9. Her mom would even say, she's too young, let her enjoy, as if wearing hijab were something unenjoyable or a punishment.
I think it's all in how you are raised.

Everything in the Ahadith is well and good.

I dont agree with the Author's tone on the subject. . . also, using Sami Yusuf and an 8 yr old girl in the example. . . hardly qualifies as 'Evil' ! Would you rather have an 8yr old sing along to the Avril Lavigne, or whatver teeny-bopper sensation that is in? So whats wrong if the Parents substitute mainstream music with Nasheeds?

I know that lots of people consider Sami Yusuf's music as controversial, because of the use of musical instruments. . . . . but 'Evil' ? Disapprove

As for the 'Hijab' issue . . . I think its very delicate. Parents who have taken thier sweet-time to 'adapt' to the Deen expect children to turn over a new leaf along with them immediately. It takes time and patience and good Islamic parenting. The child is going to behave however she was brought up like. I would worry about instilling rebellion in the child about the Hijab (referring to the 5-min e.g in the article). . . and would rather take my time, then 'force' the child. And I'm a strong Hijab proponent.

As-Salamu Alaikum

very interesting. I can't begin to imagine how the mother felt when her daughter refused the hijab. So sad. I think that if you raise your children to be modest this will not happen to you.
