No we just pray for him not to him this is blasphemy in Islam you're not allowed to pray to anyone but God. Where did you see this and what were these people doing ? Im very troubled by this. Im afraid maybe the mosque you're going to has some different practises? Are you sure its a sunni mosque it could be a shia. Shias pray TO the prophets family in some of their rituals btw. (not allowed of course) so be aware.
I didn't see this anyplace but in my own mind. I misunderstood the prayers that were said.

"I still don't understand why the Jews have a problem with Islam. They believe in the same God right ? Both religions come from Abraham." From what I understand from having some chit chats with Jews is that they dont accept Jesus as the Christ because he didnt fullfil some OT prophecies or something like. If they were to accept Islam they would have to accept Jesus as the Christ and Mohammed as a prophet which they dont want to do so for Christ as I said and for Mohammed I think cause he was an Arab. Yes Jews believe in the same God we do. Ive seen several Jews who have converted to Islam if it makes a difference to you. "Now Muhammad (pbuh), I think where I was confused was this. I saw the prayers for him and his family as being prayed to not for. There is a difference. "

"So he si no more a role model than Jesus was for the Christains. Right??"
Of course, yes. And of course he isnt our only role model pbuh, all our prophets are our role models.
"Why is it necessary to always say Muhammad ( peace be upon him) when mentioning his name. Is it out of respect??"
We say that after we mention any prophet peace be upon them out of respect. They were chosen by God not for any reason but because they were very good rightouse people so we respect that. And if you think of it a bit, they had to go through so much torment and opression for the message to be conveyed. If God didt chose them He would have chosen other ppl of course but whoever is chosen almost always has to go through troubles , torment, opression and son. They went through so much that nothing of what we go through can be compared to what they went through to convey the message of Islam (i.e surrender to God) so yes out of respect for them we say peace be upon them.
"I like the concept of a forgiving God a lot more. I want to do good, not because I am afraid of God, but because I love him and I know he loves me unconditionally". There are many hadiths which speak of Allahs love for us. And that his love is more than his punishment. But we have to balance between love and fear. For you for ex, you dont have to fear God to obbey Him. You love Him so you obbey Him. But other people need this, it differs what type of person you are ad what affects you and makes you obbey God. Is it love? Is it fear? Is it both? Personally me for example I have to have both. There is a Qudsi hadith where Allah says that He is what you expect Him to be with you. You expect Him to love you unconditionally He is that. You think He wont help you, He may help you since Hes mercifull and He may not since you didnt think He's going to help you. So it has to be balanced out. You're a good person you dont have to fear Allah to obbey Him. Other people may need to remember that if they dont obbey Him they could be punished. So remember that not all people obbey God just because they know He loves them. Some may take advantage of this and start to obbey Him less since they know Hes going to forgive them no matter what. So love and fear are both their to balance it out for all types of people. |

I still don't understand why the Jews have a problem with Islam. They believe in the same God right ? Both religions come from Abraham. I do understand about Christianity and Islam. Most of Christainity speaks of Jesus My faith has readings from both the Old Testament and New Testament, but emphasis is placed on Jesus. Just for fun I looked up Triparte Monotheism: This form of monotheism is distinct from tritheism, as there is no recognition of a separation between the Persons of the Trinity. A Christian who worships Jesus exclusively follows a poorly-balanced trinity. Those who truly approach a triune God must do so with all Persons of that God recognized equally. To not do so is to fall into tritheism or dualism. Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripartite_monotheism"
Now Muhammad (pbuh), I think where I was confused was this. I saw the prayers for him and his family as being prayed to not for. There is a difference. So he si no more a role model than Jesus was for the Christains. Right??
Why is it necessary to always say Muhammad ( peace be upon him) when mentioning his name. Is it out of respect??
In a hadith, a man killed 100 people and died, God forgave him. In another hadith, a man said to his children while dying that he has sinned so much that if he dies and Allah gets a hold of him he will be tormented like no person before (thats how much he's sinned) so when he dies, he asked asked children to burn hi and scatter the ashes in the sea i.e so that God doesnt get a hold of him. The second they did that Allah called him and asked why as to why he did this? He said that he did it out of fear of Allah so Allah forgave him and he entered heaven.
When I first read this hadith I was troubled by it. I hate the concept of a punishing God. I guess this stems from chilhood. One day my brother and I were running away from our house when my mother called us. We ignored her and kept running. She said "God will get you" At that monment there was a crack of thunder and then lightening. I don't know who I was more frightened of my mother or God. I like the concept of a forgiving God a lot more. I want to do good, not because I am afraid of God, but because I love him and I know he loves me unconditionally

Lol you're not a troll you're our precious senekerk ;) Judaism is monotheistic, we didnt say otherwise. Christianity gives God partners but claim He is One. Islamicly, this isnt monotheism. As for the Mohammed part pbuh, you have to swear that Mohammed is a prophet because he's the final one. So if you accept Mohammed you have to accept ALL the rest. But if you sware Moses is for example, you dont have to accept Jesus pbuh or Mohammed pbuh. And if you sware Jesus is you could not be accepting Mohammed. But if you sware Mohammed is then you are swaring all those previous of him are since he's the final one. Get my point? And the same aplies to praying for him, he's the seal of the prophets so if you pray for him its also as if you're praying to the rest of the prophets because in Islam he who teaches something good to someone is as if hes doing that good thing whenever that person does it. And since Mohammed came after them, whenever we pray for him, we're also praying for them. And, when you get to know him more, ull understand why he is respected-loved in this way. As for his life venerated, we have to venerate it because he is our role model we learn from him. If we disregard his life, how are we to take him as a role model? We venerate his life because we learn from it and derive from it our relegion. If you have a son who dies, God forbid, who are you to look upon as a role model? We look at his life to mimmick him. His son Ibrahim (Abraham) died. Another one of his sons also died. Both were children and died of natural causes and he grieved for them. If you are opressed, you can also look at his life story to see how to act. If you are rich you can see him before he was a prophet, if you are poor you can see him after he became a prophet, if you are starved you can see him when he was sanctioned with Abu Talib for four years and almost all he had to eat were leaves, if you are giving charity you can also see him and how he was in Ramdhan as was discribed as the wind with his genorosity. If you are single, if you are married, if you are a ruler, if you are exiled, and the list goes on and on and on. This is why we revere his life story because we derive from it our lives too. He was described by Aisha may Allah be pleased with her as the "walking Quran". So he is the walking Quran, the Quran in the flesh so we also have to revere his life story to know what the Quran was like in the flesh. If people beat you, you can also take him as a role model when he was beaten and bloodied in Ta'if, if you finally have power over those who persecuted you, you can see him when he finally entered Mecca, so humble, so modest, he was about to enter on a hourse, he got down, and rode on a donkey instead, and was lowering his head in modesty so much that his beard was touching the monkeys back. And then he forgave the people of Mecca and said to them "I say to you what Yousef (Joesph) said to his brothers So we have in him a full complete role model in everything. thats why we revere his life. One may ask, why dont you mimick Moses or Jesus or Abraham peace be upon them? The answer is, you can take Jesus as a role model for a younge single man who is persecuted. But you cant take him as a role model for a father or a ruler cause he never was one. You can take Solomon pbuh as a role model for a ruler, but you cant take him as a role model for a persecuted man. Mohammed gathered all these things in his life, all things happened to him, the ups and downs, so we revere his life story. Of course we also take all the prophets as role models too.

As Salaam, Taken from Wikipedia: Jewish view
Judaism is one of the oldest known monotheistic faiths. The best-known Jewish statements of monotheism occur in the Shema prayer, the Ten Commandments and Maimonides' 13 Principles of faith, Second Principle: "[God], the Cause of all, is one. This does not mean one as in one of a pair, nor one like a species (which encompasses many individuals), nor one as in an object that is made up of many elements, nor as a single simple object that is infinitely divisible. Rather, God is a unity unlike any other possible unity. This is referred to in the Torah (Deuteronomy 6:4): "Hear Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one." Christian view
Christians profess belief in one God. Historically, most Christian churches have taught that the nature of God is something of a mystery: while being a unity, God also manifests as three entities: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (collectively called the Trinity), the classic Christian "three becomes one" formula. Typically, Christian orthodoxy holds that these three entities are not independent but are homoousios (a Hellenistic Greek transliteration), meaning sharing the same essence or substance of divinity. The true nature of the Trinity is held to be an inexplicable mystery, deduced from New Testament but developmentally is the result of theological debate in the Council of Nicea in 325, codified in 381, and reached its full development through the work of the Cappadocian Fathers. However, some critics consider that Christianity is a form of Tritheism. While this might be true in some instances, Christianity is properly understood as Tripartite monotheism. [1] For Jews and Muslims, the idea of God as a trinity is heretical - it is considered akin to polytheism.
2.In order to convert to Islam you must swear Muhammad is a prophet, It seems that Muhammad is mention in numerous prayers. That his life is vemerated which could be defined as worship. Now I am not saying I believe what I wrote just discussion i certainly do not want to be called a troll again |

Hey, lol as all you want. I dont know what you mean by your first question, but Hindus believe they worship one god too yet he is in everything so they worship everything and consider almost everything god. The second question, what part of Islam worships Mohammed please explain .. The third question, its not exactly like that. Good deeds enter you heaven yes. But bad deeds dont have to enter you to hell. Meaning you can be forgiven by God. In another hadith is that on judgment day Allah will show so much mercy that Allahs mercy will almost reach Satan himself. So dont worry sister.

As Salaam Arab, as usual you have provided us with informative and relavent information. The 1st question crossed my mind, and i've wrestled with it for a while. some very good points were made which causes me to rethink things. you already cleared up for me the question about Jesus' death. There are however a few more questions i would add, because they wandered through my mind 1. Christianity claims it is also a montheoistic religion, as is the Jewish religion. 2. Islam seems to worship the prophet Muhammad. 3. you have to do good deeds to earn your way into heaven otherwise you go to hell Now, for the record, I posed these questions for discussion, nothing more.
