Natural Medicine from the Creation
By Latifa Wellman Weinman The Prophet Muhammad said, God did not send down any illness without sending down healing for it. He also said, To every disease, there is a remedy, and when the remedy to the disease is found, one is cured, by the permission of God, the Glorious One. Therefore, Muslims accept that healing occurs only by the permission of God the Exalted and that God has, in His Wisdom, placed both illness and healing in His creation. Consequently, many Muslims have been attracted to homeopathy, a type of alternative to the more commonly used modern medicine. Homeopathy is a system of healing based on the investigations and principles of Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, who formulated this science in the 1790s. He had become disillusioned with the medicine of his day, which employed techniques such as violent purges, leeches, and strong medicines, such as mercury and arsenic. Hahnemann despaired when such practices failed to cure his children when they fell ill, and he foreswore the use of such techniques, seeking a better way of healing..
