Wa Alaikum Salam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
I think you are talking about the tashahud in the salaah, which is the sitting position every two rakaat. What I mean is that it is not a salaah but it is part of the salaah. The tashahud is to recite: At-tahiyyaatu Lillaahi was-salawaatu wat-tayyibaat, as-salaamu alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu. As-salaamu alayna wa alaa ibaad-Illaah is-saaliheen. Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasooluhu (All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allaah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allaah and His blessings. Peace be upon us, and on the righteous slaves of Allaah. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger). In the last rakaah of a prayer we add: Allaahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa ala aali Muhammadin kamaa salayta ala aali Ibraaheem, wa baarik ala Muhammadin wa ala aali Muhammadin kamaa baarakta ala aali Ibraaheem fil-aalameen innaka Hameedun Majeed (O Allaah, send prayer upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon the family of Ibraaheem. And send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibraaheem among the nations; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory). Of course the holy prophet had a family, wives and children, mostly daughters (because the sons did not survive). It is useless to look for the family of the prophet s.a.w.s now. Our religion is not a family affair. The word "Aal" is being translated as family may not be the correct translation too. But I will leave that to some good friend to explain it to us i.e. whether it means the family (bloodline only) or it means the followers in faith? If the meaning is taken as family then it only means that the muslims should respect the immediate family of the prophet and not to accuse or abuse them. It should be noted that the Prophet had children and he had other relations such as father-in-laws too. Out religion Islam has no family business like the Hindus or the Jews have. The Hindus have a special class of people who can lead their prayers. Similarly, the Jews also had the Laviites (Lavis) who led the prayers. That was an administrative matter good for them. In Islam there is no Pundit or Padre. Prayer can be performed at any good place. Thanks. |
