as salaam aleykum

small question, so can anyone please tell me...

The Prophet went to the cave near Mecca as a religious retreat to pray. The angel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet in the month of Ramadan...

Was the month already called 'Ramadan' before the Prophet went on retreat or was it only later named Ramadan?

Wa'laikum Salam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

Welcome to our boards of discussions - Juc1. I already see you active over other threads too.

I have a small question

Is it true that the angel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet in the month of Ramadan , at the cave ?

If so , kindly share that with us.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

Salaam,

I don't understand your small question - are you saying it is not true?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad

Discontented with life in Mecca, he retreated to a cave in the surrounding mountains for meditation and reflection. According to Islamic beliefs it was here, at age 40, in the month of Ramadan, where he received his first revelation from God.

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Welcome to the Forum Juc1

To answer your question, I think the most of months were already called by the names as we know than today. Insha Allah someone can correct me if Im wrong.

To Seeks Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala tells us in Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 185

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind..

The first Ayah were revealed in the month of Ramadan in the Cave of Hira which is located in Mount Nur or was it one of your trick questionsCry

Wa Alaikum Salam .

As'Salamu Alaikum WRWB,

Not tricky question. I had in my mind that we are n;t sure about authenticity of makkan period. It was totally out of mind about the verse you reminded . As well, we have Surah Qadr in Qur'an. JazakiAllahu khayr sister,

Few months life Muharrama and Ramadha'n were establised. But the uniformity of the months as we have today were not there during those early days. It was during last pilgrimage of Prophet Muhammad {saws} , in the 10th year of Hijrah , that the decision to introduce a purely lunar Islamic Calendar was made.

That was a good question Juc 1.
