Oh, and just wanted to add, Bro Saladin is also kind of right. Because even though I was to a certain hadith - the Qur'an mentions 'Pride' as bieng one of the things that can take us to hell.

"O Lord, forgive me, my parents and Muslims in the Hereafter. O Lord, show mercy on them as they showed mercy to me when I was young."

As'Salamu Alaikum,

Welcome back sis Sakeenah. Hope sis Alwardah also joins us soon.

I would like to know if "bidah" leads to hell. I remember reading a hadith that if someone innovates in a religion, it is n't accepted. Such people are deprived at Aal-Kawthar. I wish our members to share there knowledge with us here regarding this discussion

Till then i  have an easy question

How many chapters in the Qur'an are named after Prophets of Allah swt ?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

I believe I have also read a similar hadith - Bidaah can lead us to hell fire, as demonstrated by hadith 1 below. It is a very serious sin/crime in Islam. And a person that initiates a bidaah - gets the sin of all those that follow his/her action as well.

Some relevant ahadith on bidaah are:

1. "Every innovation is a misguidance and every misguidance goes to Hell fire" - Sahih Muslim. (accord. to Imam Shaafi, the arabic translation of  "Kullu bida'tin daiala" does not mean 'all bidaah' but 'nearly all' or 'vast majority' of bidaah i.e. 'good innovations' that can be substantiated thru sources is not included in the above category. http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Articles/English/BID'AH%20-%20Innovation%20in%20Islam.htm

2. Prophet Muhammad before talking to his companions about religion, would start by saying "...and the best speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad , and the worst of all affairs are the newly invented matters (in the religion)." (Muslim)

3. "Whosoever introduces into this affair of ours (i.e. into Islam) something that does not belong to it, it is to be rejected." - narrated by Aishah R.A (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)

4. Prophet Muhammad also said "I warn you of the newly invented matters (in the religion), and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire." (an-Nisaa'ee)

5. The Messenger () of Allah said, "I have left behind me two things, if you cling to them you will never go astray. They are the Book of Allah and my Sunnah." (al-Haakim)

 6. And he () also said, "..and you will live to see great difference, so cling to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs after me, even if it be with your teeth." (Bukhari)

7. The Prophet () also said "..so he who follows my Sunnah has been guided, and he who follows the innovations has been destroyed." (Ahmad)

8. Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman said, "Every act of worship that the Companions did not do, do not do it." [Abu Dawood]

9.  Mu'aadh bin Jabal used to say, whenever he sat in a circle of knowledge, "And I warn you of what is innovated, for all that is innovated is misguidance." [ash-Shari'ah pg.55, also Abu Dawood with similar wording]

10. Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said, "Follow the Sunnah of Muhammad and do not innovate, for what you have been commanded is enough for you." [ad-Daarimee]

11. Abdullah ibn Abbaas said, "Do not sit with the people of innovation, for verily their sittings are a sickness for the hearts." [ash-Shari'ah pg 65 of al-Aajurree (d.360)]

What the Imams said about Bidaah:
  1. Imam Abu Hanifah said: "Stick to the narrations and the way of the salaf, and beware of the newly invented matters for all of it is innovation." [Sawnul Muntaq of as-Suyutee pg.32]
  2. Imam Malik said, "He who innovates an innovation in Islam regards it as something good, has claimed that Muhammad has betrayed his trust to deliver the message as Allah says, "This day have I perfected for you your religion".   [al-I'tisaam]

Some of the above ahadith are in: http://members.tripod.com/safia71/bida'_ah.htm

I dont know about the source of the following hadith - but quoting anyway - maybe somebody knows abt this quote:
  1. The Sunnah shall become corrupted and this corruption would become the norm, so much so that the people who follow the Sunnah would become as strangers, and those that call to purifying the Sunnah would be slandered and reviled. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Islam began as something strange, and it shall return as something strange as it began. So Tooba (a tree in paradise) to the strangers." It was asked, "who are the strangers?" He replied, "those that purify and correct what the people have corrupted of my Sunnah." (Tabaraanee in al-Kabeer [6/202])

The same site also mentions the Quranic Verse of Surah Nisaa as referring towards bidaah :  "Whoever contends with and contradicts the Messenger after guidance has been clearly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that of the Faithful Believers, We shall leave him in the Path he has chosen and land him in Hell, what an evil destination!" [An Nisa 4:115].
