As'Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
That was not a tricky question sister. I did not have the difference of prophet / messenger in my mind. JazakiAllah for the correction.
Sis Sakeenah, its not fair, You did not answer.
One messenger which we missed is "Hud" AS.
Next question
What is the difference between a messenger and Prophet of Allah ?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

As-salaam alaykum Warahamatullah Wabarakatuh
My very simple offhanded answer (sorry, you know I like to take the shorter route)...........naughty me
Ok,Prophets were sent to their own clan/people alone&without a Book,
while Messengers were sent with a Book....like Injil,Torah,Zaburr&Al-Qur'an etc....

As Salamu Alaikum
Sori I have being so busy these past few weeks and had no time to come to IC
Seems like we have a bit of a confusion here regarding Nabi (Prophets) and Rasul (Messenger)
This is a brief explanation:
Nabi one who brings news or information. A Prophet he informs us about Allah Subhanahu wa Taala and conveys to us His Orders and revelations. He is inspired to follow the Shariah of the prophets who preceded him. Eg. The prophets from after Musa (Alayhi Salam) to Isa (Alayhi Salam) were sent to apply the Shariah of Musa (Alayhi Salam)
Rasul Messenger they were directed by Allah Subhanahu wa Taala he either brought a new Shariah or confirmed/abrogated some of the laws of a previous Messenger.
All Messengers are Prophets but not all prophets are messengers.
Insha Allah I will try and get some more information on this.
Sister Chrysalis I am not familiar with the site you mentioned but from the information you provided I dont think you should go to that site.

Wa'alaikumsalam Sis Alwardah.
Jazakallah for pointing that out . . . I did feel slightly hesitant abt that site - hence I posted the link from where I got the info - cz they said smthing abt certain Prophets biengs superior over others etc. . .
I must admit, I've always mixed the two up (prophets n nabi) - which is why, come to think of it - both my posts say completely contradictory things!
PS: I am editing the wrong bit of info I posted . . .

As Salamu Alaikum
Dont worry to much about it,we all make mistakes and are learning from each other.
Here is a nice fatawa to explain the difference between Prophets and Messengers
http://fatwaislam.com/fis/index.cfm?scn=fd&ID=181
Lets recap the last question the Surah named after Prophets:
Surah Yunus 10
Surah Hud 11
Surah Yusuf 12
Surah Ibrahim 14
Surah Muhammad 47
Wa Alaikum Salam
