Today's khutbah focused on how Muslims are to maintain a balance between hope and fear. Fearing Allah's punishment for falling short on our duties and responsibilities (Allah's commands and prohibitions) and hoping for Allah's Mercy and Forgiveness, while doing our level best in navigating the life of this world until death reaches us. Allah bless us all with success!

Today the imam talked about hypocrisy. Hypocrites lie, don't keep their promises, cheat and are pessimistic. The believers the opposite.

Today the imam talked about the virtues of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. It is highly recommended for Muslims to do extra good deeds, such as fasting and prayer, during these days.

Today's khutbah was about recognizing and accepting Allah's signs in order to change our ways so that we can live according to His laws. However, many of us reject those signs and continue living the way we previously did. So, when someone dies, we say "To Allah we belong to Him we shall return" and are sad for a while, but then we go back to our previous ways, instead of realizing that this is one of Allah's signs to remind us that we too will die one day and face judgment for our actions. Those who are wise recognize the signs and act accordingly. Those who don't, it is as if they have been chained to the ground.

Today's khutbah was about "putting the deen before the dunya". This means doing our duty to Allah (swt) and obeying His commandments. The imam spoke about trusting in Allah (swt) and gave the examples of Moses (pbuh) who told the Israelites that Allah (swt) was with them when Pharaoh's army was chasing them, and of Muhammad (pbuh) who told Abu Bakr (ra) not to fear because Allah was with them when they were hiding in the cave while going to Yahtrib.
On a side note, the imam also mentioned the example in his personal life as well. A few months ago, his wife gave birth to a son. Unfortunately, he was born premature. The doctors also told them that there was a severe infection and the chances of brain damage were high. However, the imam trusted in Allah (swt) and had requested the community to pray for his son. Alhamdulillah, today he informed us that his son is doing much better. That is the power of prayer, he said. Edited by islamispeace - 21 October 2011 at 11:52am |

Khutbah was reminder to those who call people to the religion of Islam; for them to have knowledge of Islam prior to making their call.

Alhamdulilah the boy is doing good... Did he survive on prayers only or was he provided all the NICU facilities at the hospital? It is a big ticket and risk effort. There is old saying first take the medicine and then pray! In the old days the preemies were let to die and rarely survived... The brain damage is always a factor in preemies so there are ethics to cut off NICU based on gestation period from place to place! Edited by Sign*Reader - 21 October 2011 at 7:20pm |
