What City you are planning to go?
I would recommend to contact the Masjid's office at the outset in order to offset the cause of your nervousness.

Please forgive me if you already know these but here are a few practical points:

your body should be clean and you should be dressed appropriately. You will take your shoes of outside. And I think that is it.

In my country big camiis are very impressive places covered all around in delicate  pieces of art. Masjids are smaller. The floor is usually covered with a carpet except in very hot areas. Masjids contain few- if any- decorative pieces. Men's and women's place are either seperated by a wooden block, or upstairs is seperated for women.

There is nothing to be nervous. Just go and see. So simple. The real exciting experience is prayer with the people there. I hope you taste it least for once in your life.

Salaamu Alaykum,

In Shah Allah you will find what you need.  It sounds like it would be good to ask the person who answers the phone if they have a program for introduction to Islaam.  A program would be best to start with.  Maybe they have an informal group in which you go by on Friday prayer or probably after Maghrib I would think, on a Friday or Saturday, and sit in the group they have arranged for that.

At the very least there should be a study group monthly or held at someone's home, with a group of sisters.

Beware of unIslaamic intentions. Just because a guy answers the phone at the mosque doesn't mean he is pious.  Don't agree to meet with one guy somewhere.   Go with the group idea or meet with an educated person at the mosque when there are a lot of people there.

Let us know how it's going.  If you need Quran lessons, maybe someone here could help.  Did you look in the Language section Sister Ummziba created?  There are lots of downloads to learn the salat.  Do a search for Salat and see what you find.

Peace
