Bi ismillahir rahmanir raheem assalamu alaikum I just noticed a banner at the top of the page with a large cross on it, i clicked on the banner and i found this link. http://www.nazarethcross.com/homepage.asp a project to build the worlds largest cross!! As an Islamic site i would like to know why this banner is approved, why this site is being funded by Christians to propagate there faith, why this idol is being displayed. as a symbol the cross is Haram in islam and everything it represents by any standards or any Islamic Group.

Bi ismillahir rahmanir raheem I hit refresh a few times and the ads by google banner came up with two different versions both displaying christian advertising propogating the christian faith. although the example above was not an add by google. http://ucg.org.au/offers/ev.asp?gclid=CJqPluCh240CFSUfhgodMh VPYw i understand the need for funding but in islam it is haram to take funds from haram sources, which also includes the potential for haram as these random adds clearly are. If there is doubt in something [such as not knowing what adds are going to appear] you should abstain from it, a basic muslim principle. Edited by rami |

I would have to admit that I too, as a non-Muslim, with my own probably somewhat "heretical Christian" beliefs (Hairesis is Greek for CHOICE: try printing this word in capital letters. Hold it upside down to a mirror: what do you see? That's it isn't it? ) would find this offensive. First of all, while there are many Christian Arabs in Nazareth, the area is predominently either Muslim or Jewish. Most of all, the cross is a latter-day symbol of Christianity, co-opted by Constantine from an early Roman symbol to persuade Romans (soldiers especially - there is much of Mithras in the stories of the New Testament), and anyway, the cross was a symbol for early Christians of torture and excrutiating execution, especially for Roman citizens. Even Jesus asked "My God, why have you forsaken me? (Jewish non-Roman citizens were stoned to death, which begs a very interesting question). The earliest Christians, not surprisingly, chose the Fish as their symbol (maybe a giant fish might be more appropriate for Nazareth? Sorry - bad pun). The Cathars also shunned the cross and chose instead the Dove. (And look what happened to them!) Lastly: "What would Jesus think?" Probably horrified, as I am. The image on the website of hubristic Christian church dominence is abhorrent. Rami: don't take this as an assault on Islamic sensibilities. It isn't worth it. Think of it more as an example of bad taste. Inshallah, nothing will come of it. C |

Assalamu Alaikum, Hi Cassandra, even though your opinion is respected, it is important to see that the topic starter addressed to the administrators to seek response to his complaint. It is, therefore, imperative that only administrators or those in the IC management handling such responsibilities respond here. Let us all comply with guidelines. Peace

Quite right. My apologies. But I still hope that Forum members will have the opportunity to post on this topic, perhaps in another thread?

Hi Cassandra, I accept your apology. Such discussions may not take place in this section. Let us see the following guidelines: 14. The "Comments and Complaints" section is not a discussion forum where all Users may take part. Only the concerned User, with the original complaint (topic starter), and IC Moderators/Administrators should take part in conversations so that the complaint can be appropriately resolved. Besides, if a complaint is also shared by many others, dealing with it would automatically help others as well. For example: If 50 people have the same complaint, responding to the original post of User (topic starter) would obviously address all concerned Users. Moderators should be addressed respectfully and complaints should be made politely. http://www.islamicity.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4589& ;PN=1 Yes, discussions of interfaith nature take place in interfaith section. Besides complaints, if the topic is simply a comment, where input of moderators/administrators is not required, everyone may take part there. This point is also highlighted in the thread "attention" relevant to this section: http://www.islamicity.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5142& ;PN=1 Hope this helps. Peace

And so if I respond to this, that's an important non-compliance, while you yet again are letting a Muslim hater like Israeli avatar spew his venom on this site with only a warning? Ya Rub!!! Edited by herjihad |

Assalamu Alaikum, It is non-compliance, sister. I am sorry to say that you are not supposed to take part in this thread. Not even moderators, including myself, can reply to the complaints of the topic starter in this thread; yes, as I said earlier, administrator or someone in IC management can. As far as Israeli avatar is concerned, he has already been warned once, and he is under watch, but this issue shouldn't have been raised in this thread in the first place. You can use report feature to report to us any unwanted post. It is important that we all comply with guidelines. May Allah guide us all. Peace |
