Mumin is Arabic for "believer". There is also a chapter of Qur'an named Al Muminun (The Believers).

Here are the first few verses.

Successful indeed are the believers, Those who humble themselves in their prayers; Who avoid vain talk; Who are active in deeds of charity; And who guard their modesty - Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame, But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;- Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants; And who (strictly) guard their prayers.

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Adding to the above:

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala tells us in Surah Al-Hujurat 49: 14

The bedouins say: "We believe.'' Say: "You do not believe. But say, `We have submitted,' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not decrease anything in reward for your deeds. Verily, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.

This ayah shows that there is a difference between Mumin and Muslim. Allah knows best.

Wa Alaikum Salam

Verily your Lord is quick in punishment; yet He is indeed Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful (Surah Al-Anam 6:165)
"Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him is our return" (Surah Baqarah 2: 155)

As'Salamu Alaikum,

To add up our members, a person when recites shahadah, is a muslim. He may commit major sins like shirk etc, or even does n't offer salah etc etc ,but still he's called a muslim. Whereas a momin is a believer who , strives hard to practice Islam and is very mindful of his acts. He is a true believer. He tries his best to follow Islam.

So a muslim, may or may not be a momin. But we need to mind that, we cannot state any, as a momin or a hypocrite. For Allah swt, knows our hearts better.

Allah knows the Best

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."
