Actually, the three common physical states of matter. Water is one of only a very few substances that we commonly experience in all three phases on earth. For most other substances, the melting or boiling points are so either so low or so high that we only encounter them in artificial conditions (in a lab, blast furnace, etc.) If you're looking for a metaphysical connection, you can add the fourth state of matter, called plasma, which occurs at extremely high temperatures where electrons break loose from atomic nuclei and move freely among a cloud of positively charged ions. It occurs rarely on earth -- briefly in the path of a lightning bolt, and occasionally in very high temperature flames -- but is not really possible for us to observe directly outside a lab. The four states of matter correspond with the four Greek "elements" of earth (solid), water (liquid), air (gaseous), and fire (plasma). We could then wonder at how the ancients could have known about plasma, speculate that they must have had access to divine knowledge, and conclude that we ought to be worshipping Zeus. Or we could just shrug our shoulders and say it's a coincidence. |

Not common at all. What kind of a normal situation uses a lab or a blast furnace? By the way, the ancient Greeks are responsible for a lot of the heathen belief system in existence today. The Planets, for example, there are no other planets than our own planet earth. You worship Zeus if you like, better to worhip something than nothing ey? |

Any electrical spark is plasma. When I use my welder I create plasma which melts the metal it is in contact with. Surely you are just trolling??? Otherwise I will have to presume that your are having some sort of private competition to be the st**idest. I say this as an attempt to get you more sane and less mad. |

Greetings Tim the plumber, I really don't think there's any need to be rude when someone shares their different beliefs. Any of us could be wrong about what we believe. I think compassion is the better way. asalaam, Caringheart |

@Tim the Plumber on: "I say this as an attempt to get you more sane and less mad. "
It's a psychological case, so I think there is no point in trying to convince AbuL using logic. Airmano |
