Good Morning and Salaam Emin,
yes I believe Allah send me here to all of you for his word and help through you all.  I am so lucky to be here and have found you.  Alhamduliallah!  I am the lucky one.

Sister, there's no certain way  to know if the voice within us is from Allah or our own desires.

Then sister does it mean, as long as the voice is saying something good and not to do wrong, then maybe its Allah speaking to our mind or our hearts?  I know he would never tell us anything wrong or bad or harmful.

It is not given to any human being that Allah should speak to him unless (it be) by revelation, or from behind a veil, (Prophet Musa) or (that) He sends a Messenger to reveal what He wills by His leave. Verily, He is Most High, Most Wise. Quran 42:51

Allahs Speech is contained in the Quran.  Our religion is complete and guidance is from
Quran and Sunnah.  We are not accountable for thoughts unless we act upon them, and evil thoughts are from ourselves and whispering of Shaitan (we seek protection with Allah from the whispers of evil).

salaam abuayisha,

thank you for this surah in Quran, I did not know that we were not held accountable for our thoughts unless we act upon them.  Thank you for that.  Allah is truly merciful to us.

As Salamu Alaikum

Sis Fatimah here's a hadith - The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, Allah has forgiven my Ummah of the whisperings of their souls so long as they do not talk about it or act accordingly.

We are not accountable of the self-talk unless we dwell on them and nurture them in our minds, since we have no control over them. We are accountable if we dwell on them as well as for the deliberate intentions that we formulate based on these thoughts

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

Brother Abu Ayisha, i had been looking for this answer to sis Fatimah's question.

Allah's speech is final, now that there's no wahy, but there's something called Ilhaam{Elhaam} , which is a secret inspiration, and very virtuos are blessed with it sometimes. So sis Fatimah's question was how to differentiate between voice of nafs and Ilhaam {if at all}. What do you say brother ?

What i learnt is, we can't exactly know what the inner voice is ? If its from Allah or nafs ?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

What evidence do we have for "secret inspiration" Ilhaam?  If the inner voice is in accordance with Quran and Sunnah, its source is a knowledge which doesn't really benefit us, and we only need to act upon good whispers.  If the whisper is evil, clearly it is not from Allah, and if we act upon it we are blameworthy, and if we refrain, we are rewarded.  And Allah Knows Best.
