This might shock some of you but in my afternoon news the ME was on first with a few different coverages and then about the airlines with a few different coverages also, both had roughly same coverage, this was on after the first story of some Australian soldiers being wounded in Iraq.

And then in the nightly news there was 1 story each. Not as much as the afternoon news thou.

yes the airline incident has diverted from the ME - NOT!

and some poor guys from Texas who just wanted to make a quick buck. I saw Lina Odeh on CNN today. After answering the interviewer's question, she looked straight into the camera and asked if her husband was targeted because he is an Arab. What a brave young American woman.

FBI: No terror threat to Michigan bridge

8.14.2006 -- CARO, Michigan, The FBI said Monday it had no information to indicate that the three Texas men arrested with about 1,000 cell phones in their van had any direct connection to known terrorist groups.

Authorities had increased patrols on Michigan's five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge after local prosecutors said investigators believed the men were targeting the span.

Local authorities didn't say what they believed the men intended to do with the phones, most of which were prepaid TracFones, but Caro's police chief noted that cell phones can be untraceable and used as detonators.

The FBI issued a news release Monday saying there is no imminent threat to the bridge linking Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas.

The release also said the FBI had no information indicating that the men, Palestinian-Americans living in Texas, had any direct links to any known terrorist groups or to the alleged plot to bomb trans-Atlantic jetliners that was announced in London last week.

William Kowalski, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit field office, said authorities believe concern about the bridge was connected to images of the Mackinac Bridge found on a digital camera belonging to the men. Kowalski said there was nothing illegal about buying cell phones in bulk, but that profits from that kind of activity can be suspicious.

Adham Abdelhamid Othman, 21, of Dallas, and Maruan Awad Muhareb, 18, and Louai Abdelhamied Othman, 23, both of Mesquite, Texas, were stopped by police Friday outside a Wal-Mart store in Caro, about 80 miles north of Detroit after employees became suspicious when they purchased about 80 cell phones.

Local prosecutors charged them with collecting or providing materials for terrorist acts and surveillance of a vulnerable target for terrorist purposes.

The men told a magistrate Saturday that they were buying the phones for resale.

Louai Othman's wife, Lina Odeh, told The Associated Press on Saturday that she thought her husband and relatives were targeted because of their Arab descent. She said the men's families come from Jerusalem.

Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark E. Reene said Monday that representatives of his office and Caro police had met with Sunday with officials from the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. attorney's office. He said all the agencies were working together on the investigation. CNN http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/14/mackinac.ap/index.html

Suspicious Cell Phone Purchase Investigation

"What we got was a 9-1-1 report of two middle eastern males in the Sam's Club on Stone South of River," Tucson Police Sergeant Mark Robinson explained.

The report was made because of suspicious activity.

"That bought a large quantity of disposable cell phones."

Tucson Police Sgt. Mark Robinson explains why buying these cell phones could be considered suspicious. "People involved in criminal activity use these types of phones because they're easy to smuggle and they're hard to track."

Last week, two men were arrested in Ohio with more than $10,000 in cash and a dozen cell phones.

According to a Detroit newspaper, police stopped their car after a store clerk reported the men had been acting suspiciously. They face felony terrorism charges.

Police arrested three men in Michigan this weekend after the men purchased 1,000 cell phones.

The FBI says it has no information linking the three men to terrorism.

"Some of the concern was what's happening on the East coast and that this is similar to that type of activity," Robinson said.

Now, the Tucson Police Department has handed over their information to the FBI.

"At this point the FBI has been informed of this activity. They will follow it up on their terms, we are still looking for these two males," Robinson told KOLD.

Unbelievable? Believe it!

Bismillah,

Seems as plausible as the other possiblities.

I've got this eminent domain ruling of the Supreme Court running through my mind, and the Patriot Act, and the effort to end some major civil rights gains because they are "redundant".  Could our government be evil enough to invade other countries to distract us from the loss of these American rights?  They were showing people in the airport happy to be searched.  Now, I'm sure some people, a few, had this attitude, but everybody?  It really, really reminded me of 1984.

Salaamu Alaykum

As Im aware that my comment will be used by some to accuse me of comparing Bush (and his regime) to Hitler, I would like to say right now, the I am NOT comparing Bush to Hitler. Here are some obvious differences:

While Bush has rounded up some Arab and Muslim men purely because of their ethnicity or religion, he has not gassed them.

Hitler wouldn't have allowed any looting of museums in Baghdad.

Hitler came to power through the democratic system in Germany - Bush came to power illegitimately (according to many prominent AMERICANS).

Hitler was shorter than Bush.

Bush is not the brilliant public speaker that Hitler was.
