Angel, Some of my educated Hindu friends suggest that the Christian Trinity and Mithraic trinity are the reincarnations of Hindu Trinity, which was there 3,000+ years before the Christian Trinity. However, I did not nod my head in agreement with them. BMZ

======================== I have a question for you Jocko, in hindu there is a trinity which is pretty much exact to Christianity. the second in the trinty is Krishna which means Christ also. Since hindu has been around for sometime before Christianity what do you say about the trinity there being pretty much exact? ========================= Did you notice that this verse was written also quite a bit of time "before Christianity?" "And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ... And God created man in His own image; in the image of God created He him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:26,27) That passage was written many centries before Athanasius or other Christian church "fathers" began to coin the expression "Trinity". So when you point out that before the Gospels of peoples here or there had a concept of a trinity of some kind, I would say that you don't have to look that far. The Old Testament hints at a mysterious triune nature of God. How similar to the Trinity the Hindu "trinity" is would probably be a lengthy discussion for those who know Hinduism quite well. I do not. And though I have been told by an Indian national that an important three-some is expounded in Hinduism I would not jump carelessly to the conclussion "Oh this is surely the identical same idea as a Triune God among Christians." The number "three" may be the only correlation when you get down to the details of comparing to the two beliefs. If you are an expert on Hindu belief or think you know very much about it, you are free to point out specifics as to why you think the two "three-some" concepts are the same.

Where is that thread, Angel? I have heaps of words to say. Can you guide me to the link, please? One thing good about the Hindu trinity, when comparing it with Christian trinity, is that they have three co-equal gods and each has a job to do but they are not related to each other. There is no father and no son. It is a very well-defined trinity and the Hindus had no arguments or raging debates for 5,000+ years. There were no Councils called at all in the history of Hinduism. They sent no messiahs and no anointing with oil was done nor any appointments were made. BMZ Edited by BMZ |

Angel, I think I know the one you're talking about. It is really long. I do intend to go back and read it, but have been really behind on other things lately and haven't had time to devote to the forum. I hope you will be patient with me because I'm still behind, but I haven't forgotten. |

Oh. Sorry. I said that because of the time you said you couldn't worship God. So are you Hindu? |
