Hello,
I'm new to the forum. I'm not a Muslim but I curious about some of the aspect of Islam.
Right now I'm doing some research on the origins of Jihad. I'm wondering if the Qur'an formally defines Jihad anywhere. And if it doesn't, I'm wondering if there's a passage that talks about the spiritual/inner Jihad being the "greater" one.
Thanks for your comments.

Bi ismillahi rahmani raheem
Allah in the Quran does not use the word Jihad to mean fighting, not even once! The word that is used is "Qitaal". You may like to read the following arrticle. http://alghazzali.org/resources/articles/jihad.pdf Edited by rami - 26 May 2008 at 2:22am |

Rasul Allah (sallah llahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Whoever knows himself, knows his Lord" and whoever knows his Lord has been given His gnosis and nearness.
