Suggestions for some good islamic names

Muhammad is always the best name. But there are many other good Muslim names to choose from. Consider some of the other prophets like: Musa, Isa, Ibrahim, Adam, Yusuf, Yunus, Hud, Lut, Ilyas, Harun.

Also the names of the companions are also wonderful: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Bilal, Hassan, Hussayn, Masood, Khalid, Zubayr, Talha.

And then there are names derived from Allah's attributes: Abdur Rahman, Abdur Rahim, Abdullah, Abdul Hakim, Abdul Basit, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Qudoos, Abdus Salaam, Abdul Muhaimin.

For Girls, start with the four women who excelled above all others: Maryam, Fatima, Asiya, Khadija.

Other good female names are those related to the Prophets:
Hajjar, Bilquis, Sara, Zulaikah, Hawwa, Aisha, Ruqayyah, Hafsah.

And then the other believing women who lived during the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh):
Safiyyah, Asma, Sumayyah, Hamnah

Finally, you can also choose feminine words that reflect Allah's attributes:
Aaliyah, Hakima, Malikah, Rahmah, Latifah, Wahida, Halimah, Shukurah.

However, Asiya was the name of Pharaoh's wife who raised Musa, peace be upon him.

According to Wikipedia, Asiya means "the healer" or "one who helps the weak".

Also, the website names4muslims.com confirms that Asiyah means: "One who tends the weak, one who comforts, consoles."

The confusion is with the English spelling and pronunciation. The hadith reported by Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, is referring to the Asiyah spelled with an 'Ayn and a Sawd.

But the name of Pharaoh's wife was Asiya spelled with an alif and Seen. The root of this word means to comfort or relieve.

Those two words may sound the same in English, but they sound different in Arabic and have two completely different meanings.

'Asiyah with 'Ayn and Sawd, as you mentioned does mean rebellious or stubborn. Unfortunately I can't write Arabic in this forum to show you the difference.
