Islam and Jerusalem

   I've been studying the history of the middle east, and am a little mixed up. 
The moslems claim Jerrusalem is historicaly theirs. But then I learnt that jerusalem was the capital city of david and the jews, hundreds of years before mohamed was even born 
Also, I was looking up  Jerusalem in Koran...but couldnt find it mentioned once

But found this...

It is written in the Qur'an that God granted the Land of Israel to the Children of Israel and ordered them to settle therein (Qur'an, Sura 5:21) & that before the Last Day He will bring the Children of Israel to retake possession of their Land, gathering them from all different countries and nations (Qu'ran, Sura 17:104). 

How moslems relate to these issues ?
