Ruling concerning Ṣalāt al-Jumah.
**************************** Ṣalāt al-Jumuah is an individual obligation for every Muslim male who is mature , sane and who has no excuse for leaving it out. This is evidenced by: 1- Allahs statement: [O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Ṣalāh on Friday (Ṣalātul-Jumah), proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you if you did but know.] (Al-Jumuah: 9) 2- The Prophets (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) statement: Some groups should rather cease from leaving out Ṣalāt al-Jumuah or Allah will definitely seal their hearts and they will hence become among those that are heedless.156 Those upon whom Ṣalātul-Jumuah is not Obligatory Ṣalāt al-Jumuah is not obligatory on a female, the young ones, a traveler, and the sick who might encounter difficulty in attending Ṣalāt alJumuah. However, it is acceptable from them if they do observe it (Ṣalāt al-Jumuah). If they observe the Jumuah prayer, then that suffices for them , otherwise they observe Ṣalātuḍh-Ḍhuhr The Conditions for the Validity of Jumuah 1. Its time: Thus it is not valid before its time, nor after its prescribed time has exited. Its time is like that of Dhuhr. 2. The presence of a group: Thus it may not be made alone. The least which is considered a group are three people. 3. That the ones praying be residents: As to the bedoiuns who live in tents, and nomads, it is valid for them to perform Jumuah; yet it is not obligatory on them. 4. That it be preceded by two sermons; since the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) always would do that. The Description of Ṣalāt ul-Jumuah The Jumuah prayer consists of two Rakah in which the recitation is aloud. It is Sunnah to recite after the first Rakah, after the Fatihah, Surah Al-Jumuah; and in the second Surah Al-Munafiqun. Or to recite Al-Ala in the first and Al-Ghashiyah in the second.165 The Two Sermons Their Rulings The two sermons are obligatory and they are a precondition for the validity of (Ṣalāt al-Jumuah. They are delivered in Arabic if majority of the audience can understand Arabic and are, generally, able to assimilate the meaning thereof . This is done in order to facilitate the learning of the Arabic language and in order not to deviate from the way of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). However, if majority of those present cannot understand the Arabic language, then there is no harm if the sermons are delivered in any other language, since the essence of the sermons is to teach and guide, and not just speech delivery. Cognizance should be made of the verses of the Quran which must be mentioned in Arabic if possible- and then translated. Complements of the Sermon Jumuah sermons do not have restrictive basic elements; whatever qualifies to be a sermon , customarily, will suffice. However, a well-received sermon should comprise the following: 1- Allahs praise 2- The two testimonies (of Islamic monotheism) 3- Blessings on the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) 4- Advice regarding piety towards Allah 5- Recitation from the Quran 6- Admonition |
