On the topic of Djin
I understand they are spiritual beings and that a sura was written about them. Considering they are not referenced in any Jewish or Christian text, those texts provide info to the contrary, where did the concept of Djin originate? I am suspicious it is the result of cultural influence of the early Bedouin people. I would like to have more info on said subject. |

Of course they are referenced in the Jewish and Christian scriptures. You call them devils and demons. For example, Lucifer in your scriptures is Iblees in the Qur'an. There is a chance also that your scriptures were corrupted and these words were lost along the way.
Also there are references in your scriptures about fallen angels, however it is very clear in the Qur'an that these Jinn are not angles because angels are another group of created beings. For your information angels are made from light, Jinn from smokeless fire and mankind from clay. |

Indeed I would pretty much agree. When you read through Islamic texts written by educated Muslims you rarely find any references to Jinns. I think that they play about the same role in Islam as Exorcism does in Christianity. There are obviously still some people that believe in their existence but the mainstream shies away from the subject. My personal impression is actually very close to yours: The Jinns are a disguised recrystallisation of the polytheistic world Muhammad happened to grow up in. I also dare to predict that you will not get [m]any [valuable] replies to your question here. Airmano Edited by airmano - 07 February 2015 at 3:10am |

Allah says in Quran in ch 51 v 56 that Allah created man and jinn only to worship him.the biggest eg of jinn is iblis who refused to bow down in front of prophet Adam (pbuh) and Allah punished him, Allah in ch 18 v 50 of Quran says iblis was jinn

If we are made out of clay why don't we swell under the rain ? And if Jinns were made out of fire we could get rid of them using a good fire extinguisher. Problem solved: MacGuyver Edited by airmano - 07 February 2015 at 1:54pm |
