I'm traveling in the Middle East and noticed that a few minutes before adhan, muezzins recite something. The speaker quality is really bad so I usually can't hear or understand what they're saying, but someone said they usually recite something from the Quran. However, a few times it sounded like something else.
Can anyone help me understand what they usually say before adhan? It confused a few new travelers who mistook it for maghrib adhan and began eating for iftar too early. |

that is read by the muezzin before adhan is the word of Allah in the Qur'an, Surah Al Ahzab 33:56
Verily Allah and the angels recite shalawat to the Prophet (Muhammad). O ye who believe, recite shalawat to the Prophet and say regards respect to him. Shalawat is a special salvation prayer to the prophet Muhammad. You don't need to be confused because the function of adhan besides a call to shalat, and also as notification to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan (especially for maghrib adhan) |
