I have noticed that the opening topic on many if not all threads on this forum do not reflect the opening topic.  Some go in quite a few different directions.

I suggest that the Moderators interrupt the discussions that stray from the opening topic and suggest that the participants introducing new topics should open new thread.

Thank you.

Hello, Colin.

The purpose of my suggestion is to encourage participants to stay on topic.  I participated on a couple of other forums where this practice was enforced and the result was an improvement of the forum.  There are too many nuggets that are buried in threads that have relation to the introducing topic.

And it is one of the rules here:

5. The subject of your message should be in accordance with the theme of the forum. (if the text is found irrelevant to the theme, it may be deleted). We also request you to avoid straying from the 'topic' of discussion.

I understand what you are saying George, but I still reckon it's better to let the conversations/debates take their natural course... May I just add, provided that no one is deliberately steering threads off topic for ulterior motives.

I'm not sure yet, Colin, but it does "seem" to be the case on some topics.  I haven't been here long enough to be sure.

It was just a suggestion. :)

Peace,

I agree 100% George. I think moderators do this once a while, however perhaps they overwhelm with other issues, so they don't have enough time to do this. I think the forum members should try to force themselves to follow the rules. Otherwise the forum will look ugly, and difficult to trace back.
