As-Salaam alaikum, In ayat 81 of Surat 'Isra'i of the Holy Qur'an, Allah Ta'ala says:-- "And say: Truth has (now) come, and falsehood perished: For falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish." On his triumphant return to Makkah on 20th Ramadan 8 A.H (11TH January 630), the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, entered the Great Sanctuary, touched the Black Stone with his staff, performed the tawaf around the Ka'aba and then wheeled (turned) to confront the 360 idols of the pagan Arabs that stood on the perimeter, a grand totemic of gods and goddesses. Pointing to each idol in turn, the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, recited this Qur'anic ayat quoted above (17:81) and at this, each idol fell down flat. That event marked the end of pagan practices and affirmed the meaning of One God (tawhid) and it also served as a metaphor, for all our human constructs of Reality...mental or otherwise. The overthrow of the 360 man-made idols by the Prophet at the center of the world was to be re-enacted within each seeker of Truth at the center of their own being, in their quest for the ever-Living God. The human heart has to be cleansed of all imaginings that defile it.
