   99 name of Allah series

This lecture series introduces the viewer to the Divine Names, or al-Asma’ Al-Husna, of Allah SWT, as a springboard for further study.  It has two components: an “intellectual” component, and a “spiritual” component. The intellectual component tackles the foundational questions of how we know that here are Divine Names, how do we know how many they are, and where does the list of names (that perhaps hangs on our wall at home) come from?  The spiritual component then explores the possible purpose behind the Divine Names, and introduces the viewer to the classification scheme posited by some of the scholars, and then takes some examples of Divine Names from each category of the classification to explore their spirituality and beauty.  Along the way, nuances of the Arabic structure are explored, as well as the differences between similar names, and what those differences may imply.

	Lecture 2: Where Does the List of Names Come From? - 99 Names of Allah Series https://www.islamicity.org/series/lecture-2-where-does-the-list-of-names-come-from-99-names-of-allah-series/ Lecture 2: *Where Does the List of Names Come From?* Continuing the “intellectual” component, this lecture explores the notion that, according to our scholars, the list of names cannot be traced back to the Prophet PBUH through sahih hadeeths, and has been attributed to narrators who came after him. Therefore, there is no “one” list agreed upon by scholars, and there is even some debate about whether the names are actually 99 in number.

	*Lecture 3: How the Names are Derived.* Although there is no “one” list, most lists agree on most names. In this lecture, we explore how the scholars and narrators derived the names. Some are stated explicitly and clearly in the Quran as Divine Names, while others are derived more indirectly, through actions or attributes of Allah SWT mentioned in the Quran, while others may be found in hadith. 	Lecture 4: The Purpose of the Divine Names. This lecture begins the transition from the intellectual to the spiritual component of the Divine Names. It looks at some of the theories as to the purpose of the Divine Names. 	The 99 names of Allah represent various aspects of Allah's nature such as mercy, power, wisdom, and justice. Knowing the attributes and qualities of Allah helps us understand who Allah is and how He interacts with the world and His creation. Reflecting on Allah's names leads to a deeper understanding of His wisdom, power, and mercy, and it helps us appreciate the complexities of creation and the universe. The attributes of Allah can serve as a guide for ethical behavior and personal development. We can strengthen our faith and increase our love and reverence for Allah. The 99 names of Allah are an integral part of Islamic belief and practice. Learning them and understanding their meanings can lead to greater spiritual awareness and a stronger connection with the Creator.
