Walima invitation excluding children sunnah

   Salam alaikumMy wife and I are invited to a walimah and it explicitly states that children are not invited.  It is difficult for us to attend the walimah without children. Is it sunnah to accept the invitation and go? What do we do on this occasion and of course Allah (swt) knows best.
